CX and my Wife

Short time reader, first time poster. Currently Aust military with 3000+ TT, 900+ PIC, most on multi turbine. Very impressed with the Fragrant Harbour forums and would like to join you CX pax boys as an SO some time in the next 12-18 months. Have a number of Q's but will start with the most important one:

Can my corporate high-flying HR superstar wife expect to gain employment sponsorship in HK? She's still young, enthusiastic, motivated, and neither of us are ready for kids (too much travel yet to do).

Yes, sad I know, but I'm sure that she would not be content if unoccupied whilst I am away, and I honestly couldn't do that to her.

I understand from reading previous threads that company sponsorship will be required, but what I am after is some specific advice from those whose spouses either have obtained sponsored employment, or have tried and failed.

Yes I've heard that the one with the snakey thing on the tale is struggling in that department. If you need contacts pm me.

Most of us from the snakey thing mob are quite happy thank you. Therefore, we don't require management lessons from the chicken wing school of how to run an airline.

BTW, the snakey aircraft have tails, not tales. :cool:

Perhaps you are too young to remember the old joint advertising campaign based on Tale of Two Cities running the theme 'The City of Two Tails'...but that's another tale from the days when the snakey planes had a pretty swank paint jobs.

Seems the the disappearance of the coffee machines is making some people pretty testy these days.

Returning to South's original, reasonable question...........

Your wife will need to get a work permit which will require the Company who employ her to sponsor her visa. This is becoming more difficult recently due to the number of people who have obtained permanent residence status, (being 7 years after the change of ownership of HK!). (When a Company sponsor you they are liable for the employee's tax bill should they do a runner, whilst you are personnally responsible if you have a permanent residency status).

It used to be possible to sponsor one's spouse, but that has changed now. Some of the larger Companies are pretty well organised in obtaining work permits for people. Theoretically they have to substantiate the reason why they cannot recruit from the local market place. More and more companies are however insisting on permanent status.

I should have led with a plain vanilla response.

What I was alluding to is that Mrs South, as an HR specialist who obviously has more than a passing acquaintance with aviation and the foibles of those engaged in such matters, should perhaps consider applying to one or both of the carriers in HK in her own right. She may also consider writing to MG, Pres. of the HKAOA, who as an ex-RAAF man may profer some sound advice or leads.

I suggest Mrs South be proactive in her own right well before CX becomes a reality for Mr South.

Thanks gentlemen, it was nice to get a couple of useful replies once the dispersion casting ceased. Have Mrs S. on the job of looking at he HK job market in advance, and Yes, the thought of working for her did also cross my mind.
