Transiting HKG

G’day all,

Could anyone clarify if transiting (on staff travel) is an option ?

Thanks in advance.

Before 1st October, definitely a No due quarantine requirements, but since then I don't know. Try emailing GBS help @ Cathaypacific . com without the spaces and see if you get a reply. Sometimes they can be helpful.

Full fare can transit no problem.

Following this as interested as well

tyson, try the GBS email. I have had mixed response, meaning brilliant to no reply. It's worth a shot. Tell them who you are airline wise if non CX and you still may get an answer. Depends who is on duty.

I had a retired mates daughter travel LHR HKG BNE on an FOC no problems 2 months ago.

FOC is not subload, so you get both boarding cards in LHR. Thats the rub, if your are subload in transit in HKG you need to leave airside to get your new boarding card for the next sector, and so before 1st Oct you were trapped by quarantine.

Now, not so sure, it's up to GBS.

Emailed GBS 6 days ago requesting clarification for staff travellers transiting HKG- no reply as yet. Anyone in HKG who could knock on doors for an answer?

I would avoid. HKG requires testing and can easily lock you up in quarantine for 2 weeks, a month or two, WTFK, they make it up as they go along. Google “penny bay” to see the concentration camp they built for purpose.

find direct or another airport. This is not the HK of old. It’s a brave new world, especially in that part of the world.

There is a way you could do it....

You could travel to HK follow all the rules & procedures for arriving in Hong Kong. The test is a PCR test on arrival and you go home or to a hotel to await the results and serve the 3 days on a restricted amber code.

During the time on that amber code you can leave your home or hotel but can't go to premises that check the vaccine requirement ie bars and restaurants, you can however fly out and ride public transport.

So as soon as you leave baggage claim just go back up to checkin and checkin for your next sector. Just remember to make the declaration to the Health Authority that you are leaving HK and will not be physically present to do the next required PCR tests (Day 2,4 & 6). You will probably need an address in HK to put down on all the forms, ask a mate if you can use their address and explain what you will be doing!

Hope this helps!

Did it a few days ago. Quick PCR then on your way. Go through immigration, collect bags, upstairs to check back in. Granted, it wasn't too crowded but for once it seems the clowns have got it streamlined.

A mate transited HK as a pax a couple of days ago 'The Specials, Ghost Town....mate it’s bloody frightening that the rest of the world is just getting on with life and then this.'

Just a stagnant little Chinese back water.

throwaway77 19th Oct 2022 13:09

Family member did it without going through hk immigration couple of days ago on standby. No checked bags, and both sectors had to be confirmed prior to departure.

anxiao 19th Oct 2022 14:16

LoadT, on ID travel? With CX or other airline tickets? Full fare is a given, that is not the point of the thread.

CX is giving no guidance on transiting with CX ID tickets. The best I can guess is that LLLQNH has the answer, as once you are through immigration on landslide you can go upstairs to departures and check in at CX staff travel. Somehow you need to let the health department know that, sensibly, you do not wish to stay in HKG and will not provide the compulsory tests over the next few days. Otherwise the state police will come to the address you have given on the arrival form and hammer on the door.

Thanks LLLQNH,

The most logical input so far.

Cheers Oz2
