Beijing ordering a full HK lockdown, this is going to get VERY nasty now. I strongly advise all partners/kids/dependants to leave HKG immediately before you get dragged into this permanently. No child will ever recover from what is about to happen to them.

CX to cease operations for March is my guess and borders completely shut during city-wide testing and isolation.

Covid-zero to be further enforced when Omicron burns through the city and HKG can claim victory against the virus.

THEY will not lose face.

SloppyJoe 11th Feb 2022 10:18

Have they? Can you post a source, I read they are considering it if no improvement within two weeks and agree that probably means it's coming. Leave the sensationalist headlines to the tabloid papers.

I await with interest the PLA entering to enforce the lockdown as there are no means otherwise to enforce such a lockdown.

and how will the subdivided flats and caged dwellers be fed? Street sleepers of which there are thousands. Who will be preparing the meals?

as for children never recovering, this is not Syria and full blown bombardment. They are not witnessing their parents dragged away or blown to shreds

get a fvvvking grip

anxiao 11th Feb 2022 15:09

Well they have already seen their parents taken away as the children were taken under government care to hospital.

Full lockdown is more difficult to enact in HK for several reasons, one being Hong Kong's dependence on imported food. Locking down Xian is relatively easy when the government can ship supplies in from 100km away. More tricky across the Shenzhen border, as we are already seeing from the empty shelves.

Also with 25% of the population living in poverty the conditions, when you tell people to stay indoors, get insanitary quickly. Ten to a toilet can lead to some impressive covid figures.

There will be further lockdowns, but not a full Wuhan type. More like London Spring 2020.

3000 preliminary cases today. Ramping up.

In other news:
France drops covid-19 testing for fully vaxed UK travellers.
This means you can now travel to and from France from the UK without ANY testing.
It's all coming to an end.

Edit: Not 3000 prelim cases yet, fake news, 1347 new cases, 1500 plus prelim cases. but I also suspect testing has bottlenecked, so there are delays in the reporting of new cases.

omicron doubles approximately every 2-3 days. There’s no controlling it now in HKG. The good news is it peaks fast and causes milder disease (although most countries where it’s ripped through have high vaccination take up).
The bad news is, that HKG has very poor vaccination rates amongst the vulnerable.

Yup, and so be it.

If you lay in the road long enough, you’re going to get hit by a car.

Maybe, but is this a reliable source or fake news?

It is the most illogical thing to do, so I am assuming it must be real..

SloppyJoe 16th Feb 2022 18:59

It's complete madness, so they test everyone, then what. It won't eliminate COVID, positive people will still travel home from the test centre and infect others who may have tested negative or just provided a negative sample. Idiotic.

MENELAUS 16th Feb 2022 19:41

And the testers aren’t required to be vaccinated. Stop bloody testing. And move on. Along with the rest of the planet

Oh no, gotta keep this crazy train going.. right off the cliff!

From the Washington Post today:

Experts inside and outside the territory say that Hong Kong’s approach will not work; on one hand, it is not restrictive enough to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and on the other, it is not forward-looking enough to shift to mitigation and focus on vaccinations to end the pandemic.

Ooi Eng Eong, an infectious-disease expert at the Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore, said that keeping with zero covid indefinitely is “not possible” and only makes sense if it is a measure to buy time to get the vaccines distributed.

Hong Kong’s elderly also have a serious vaccination problem — only about half of those between 70 and 79 and about a quarter of those over 80 have been fully vaccinated. The official focus on zero covid had many thinking they wouldn’t need the vaccines.

Instead of focusing on vaccinations, city authorities kept ties to the outside world at an absolute minimum, neglected to boost hospital capacity and focused on scapegoating, including an ill-advised culling of the hamsters widely kept as pets because they might be a source of infection.

David Owens, a founding partner of OT&P Healthcare, which is among the biggest private health-care providers in Hong Kong, wrote in a recent blog post that the “reluctance to consider scenarios other than a return to zero Covid is the antithesis of prudence.”

“Vaccinations work, and they are the only long-term solution,” he wrote, urging the government to acknowledge that zero covid is a “temporary state.”

HTF can you test 7.5 million people ? Let’s say you find 60,000 hitherto unknown cases. What are you going to do with them ?

Meanwhile most European countries are getting rid of most, if not all, regulations that are in place due covid. Despite record numbers of positive tests the hospitals aren’t filling up with covid patients. Even carnaval and festivals are allowed (depending per country)

Omikron is basically treated as a flu now.

Load Toad 18th Feb 2022 04:35

The next variant on Omicron (BA2) is showing signs it could be more severe than plain Omicron. The govt here would do better getting as many people fully vaccinated (with BioNTech) and those that don't want to should be offered a quarantine space or a hotel room until the Omicron/BA2 strain passes - the rest of us should be allowed to restart our lives.

That makes way too much sense, so it will never happen.

Bunch of clowns trying to run a government.
