Bases, Closed Loop, POS18

CX mis-Management immorally used COVID to force us onto POS18.

They closed the bases as POS18 would only be legal in the worker's paradise of HKG. Now COVID is forcing them to base crew again (USA pilots being re-activated).

DFO is asking for more Closed Loop volunteers. GMA asking for Extended Duty volunteers, with a tiny cash allowance.

I suggest we withdraw all support for Closed Loops and Extended Duties. They should pay us from sign on to back in your front door. There should also be significantly more leave given in long blocks and a big increase in the special duty allowances. They should pay us for time spent testing on days 'off'. They want to pay by the hour. I want to be paid what I am worth.

If we withdraw all support for Closed Loop and Extended Duties they will be forced to reverse roster us from bases. If they can do this for the next 6 months, they can offer this an an option going forward.

They used COVID against us, now lets use it against them.

HKGDTT 3rd Dec 2021 00:58

I remember those blue bag video sessions , multiple suggestions for reverse basings... but the reply was : cannot... Incredible shortsightedness from management , good luck to all still there and in search of better options.

cxflog 3rd Dec 2021 01:32

I’ve withdrawn from both, hope everyone can pull together and do the same. It’s about time for some change around here

Will IB Fayed 3rd Dec 2021 01:33

Haha, funny post CR.
Pilots stick up for each other, and tell management it's not good enough? When the last time that happened in the Fragrant Harbour? (Having said that, I do agree. Clearly the Company isn't going to stand up against the CCP's rules, so it's up to you guys)

There's no reason to have based pilots on POS18. I'm still unsure as to the actual reason I was dumped from my base.

...they will be forced to reverse roster us from bases
Good luck doing that in any of the countries they have made staff redundant, Aus, NZ, Can, UK, EU. Hellloooooo multiple lawsuits!

Until 500 of you get the jump on jobs at home, before the inevitable mass-resignations come Oct 2022, this **** will keep on going. 2022 looking to be another disaster of a year for you all I'm afraid to say (although you all know it anyway). Good luck my friends.

Bangaluru 3rd Dec 2021 02:22

I used to think that was the way forward and I completely agree CR, but I have just as completely lost hope that it will ever happen. It will not ever happen, I’m sorry.

Rie 3rd Dec 2021 02:42

I've withdrawn. I see no point anymore. Enough people have have spent over 170 days in quarantine in the last year alone. Add to that the fun at Disney... Once the border opens to the north cases will flood in. HK will be blamed for every single one of them.

t's no longer right to go beyond the contract to help a company who time and time again show the contract means absolutely nothing.

controlledrest 3rd Dec 2021 03:27

HKGDTT

We used to have reverse rostering, we used to have Temp Bases and we used to have Bases. Of course they can.

We don't even have to pull together on this. Just do it for yourself. Why put up with it all? Why help them out when they aren't helping us? Look after yourself - withdraw. Let them sort out the mess they have made.

Jnr380 3rd Dec 2021 03:34

I wonder how many US based pilots are actually willing to return when most apparently already have other jobs? Either CX will be in for a rude shock or a pleasant surprise!

I think it’s if you’re neither closed loop or EDTF, chances are you’ll probably be put into the dedicated “mainland” team, doing China turns all day everyday

Those with other employment would be nuts to come back. Those needing to get current again and log a bit of time for their next job will come back for a couple of months at most.

GMA was surprised so few Aussies came back. Just goes to show how out of touch he/she/it is. Don't pay someone, they will find another job and adjust.

I think you were dumped as the company was tired of having to follow a contract and also of being in legal battles (and failing). They want to be able to do as they wish, when they wish. Hence POS18 is a 'subject to company policy' document, not an employment contract. No way would it fly somewhere with reasonable laws such as a base.

Perhaps, but they did offer some of the based guys (NZB) a slightly bigger payout if they agreed to not take action against the company in the future.

Who needs a livable salary when we get weekly emails praising us for our resilience?

Jnr380 3rd Dec 2021 06:22

“Thank you all for your resilience, perseverance and sacrifice! In recognition of your efforts, all Directors will have their pay restored to pre-covid levels, the rest will get a 1.5% pay rise, I know it’s not much but it’s the best we can do given the circumstances. Now please excuse me, as I need to attend to my Harem at one of the Swire properties”

RAT Management 3rd Dec 2021 14:32

Withdraw.... I never signed up in the first place. You cut my salary and make me an hourly contractor.... Well I will do just that, and choose the days that are worthy of me turning up. But hey plenty of Heroes signing up for training and all the other crap. Yep it's worth 150% work for 5% more pay after they cut your pay by 40% or more.... Not to mention the Provident fund cut as well ... But yeah you will be a trainer! Awesome! Oh and by the way thank you for your resilience and professionalism and allowing us to shaft you continuously.

OK4Wire 3rd Dec 2021 19:10

I don't work here anymore, so I don't have a dog in this fight, but I still have friends who do, and most are trying to get out of HKG.

Bolstering one's CV is probably even more important these days than it ever was, so maybe these "new trainers" are doing just that? It does seem as though you would like guys to "just resign, today if possible", but perhaps taking a little while longer, but "leaving in better shape" has merit.

RAT Management 4th Dec 2021 00:14

Whether your a trainer or not means nothing. I know for certain. Speak to some of the ex Dragon trainers . You certainly won't go to a training position with another company. You may get a left seat gig based on your experience on type and hours only at a smaller outfit like some of the ones in Aus like network or alliance. But those gigs look at what rating you have and hours and how current you are and That's it. You won't be pulling in the big $$$ but it's not about that if that's your choice. I get it, and I will be doing the same soon enough.

Anything reputable like a major, will see you start at the bottom like the F18 instructor - instructor who was my SO.

Again, the illusion of being a trainer is the fact you are selling a pound of your flesh for the illusion of something magical when in reality is just not worth that much in the end.

It's the same as a degree from University. It's just putting fancy rims on an ordinary car, but it's the motor and the drive train that counts.

BuzzBox 4th Dec 2021 00:41

Absolutely. Umpteen-thousand hours plus check & training experience counts for little unless you also hold the type rating they want, with recent time on type. Network and Cobham recently advertised for D/E Captains in Australia, but they weren't interested in pilots who didn't meet those criteria, no matter how much experience they had on other aircraft.

OK4Wire 4th Dec 2021 21:00

Buzz and Rat: my experience was somewhat different, as I was not interested (and just too tired) to look for another flying job. A training qualification would have been a nice to have, to open other doors.
