Calls to scrap travel bubble with Singapore

https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/...lans-singapore

Another nail in Hong Kong’s coffin. Hong Kong law makers want to scrap the travel bubble with Singapore because Singapore wants to get on with with life and learn to live with covid.
They accept it’s going to be here for ever so let’s just get on with life. A dose of common sense from the Singapore government, continued madness from HK.

Flying Clog 9th Jul 2021 11:16

You can't legislate against stupidity.

The clowns in the HK Government and Health Department are top class morons.

Oasis 9th Jul 2021 17:26

Travel bubble is a failed concept. Just give the fully vaccinated the opportunity to travel without a quarantine.

As a little bonus, it will also increase uptake of the vaccine.

Not that hard, is it?

Travel Bubble ??

BTW folks, for those landlocked in HK, SIN or elsewhere, if you think that once they begin to lift travel bans you'll be able to use your already useless "STAFF TRAVEL BENEFITS" you'd better think again.. To quote a Seinfeld quip " NO SEATS FOR YOU" !!! Your travel benefits will be just about as good for you as is your Dental plan and useless FOC..!!

Rie 10th Jul 2021 02:40

Flex, I don't really understand your post. You can use staff travel right now. I haven't left HK but I know people using both the freight benefits and flying in and out on Staff Travel. As always, if a flight is full or weight restricted you won't get on. Nothing will change.

At the same time the "bubble" was a joke. They should follow Singapores lead and just treat it like a flu now and get on with life. The rest of Asia is seeing a massive spike happening over the last month. Won't take long and someone from the mainland will bring it right into CWB or TST and it'll run wild.

Koan 10th Jul 2021 09:23

The virus is not going away. Can only be managed like influenza. Pfizer is already talking about a tweaked booster. This is going to be a yearly or or multi month jab
Regions that attempt to stick to covid-zero will be left behind, or just stay closed and locked down forever.

volare_737 11th Jul 2021 06:33

Australia is the best example of painting ourself into a corner. Very hard to get out off and there are definitely economic and emotional cracks appearing behind the scenes ! Zero case policy simply won't work unless you are prepared to lockdown forever ! Its not really that hard to understand !

krismiler 11th Jul 2021 10:06

It might have been possible to contain the virus in late 2019 by locking down, but now it's too late. COVID is endemic and we have to learn to live with it. Some countries were hard hit early on, such as the UK and USA but they are now recovering as the population is becoming mostly vaccinated.

Some countries such as Thailand and Taiwan were largely spared up until recently but now they are seeing increasing numbers of cases, however the vaccine is now available so they shouldn't see mass deaths.

Zero cases isn't practical unless Australia is prepared to isolate itself permanently from the rest of the world and lock down for every single local case. The focus now needs to be on vaccinating and managing the opening up.

Curry Lamb 12th Jul 2021 10:44

A very good, rational post Krismiler.

CodyBlade 12th Jul 2021 10:53

Singapore is now reduced to only imported cases of mainly people from Sub-continent.

Local cases are down to 1 or zero for several weeks.

300k new citizens from India cannot be denied entry in to Lion city.

Other city are not approving travel bubble bcos of this.

CodyBlade 14th Jul 2021 09:40

JUST IN: Singapore reported a total of 60 new COVID-19 cases today, the highest daily count in more than 10 months.
Spoke too soon.

Pistolpete47 14th Jul 2021 13:57

Thought they weren't counting anymore

krismiler 15th Jul 2021 11:34

Singapore plans on having 2/3 of its population vaccinated by early next month. This is almost herd immunity and new cases won't be too serious as the virus won't be spreading exponentially and those who do get it aren't likely to be overloading the ICUs. It can then be treated like seasonal flu with those affected spending a few days at home in bed.

Flying Clog 17th Jul 2021 17:04

Hopefully the idiots that run HKG will get the message.

westeleven 19th Jul 2021 09:38

krismiler

You should read up on Ivermectin. Get the facts on Mexico, India, Indo before they stopped and Argentina.

krismiler 20th Jul 2021 04:51

Singapore has had a couple of significant COVID clusters with 163 cases yesterday. If the travel bubble is conditional on a low number of local cases, then it probably won't be happening anytime soon. An opening up based on vaccination rates and negative tests prior to travel is one of the few realistic options left.

Stallone 20th Jul 2021 06:22

hard to see the bubble happening with the current explosion of covid cases in SG

26 unlinked yesterday

Flying Clog 20th Jul 2021 12:38

26? Oh dear, let's run for the hills :ugh:

Oli777 20th Jul 2021 12:45

26 cases and you say 'explosion'
FML... here lies the problem

CodyBlade 21st Jul 2021 05:11

follow Singapore open up and learn to live with covid
So much for this option.

Singapore is having an explosion of cases linked to half ass open border policy, KTV, fish market and schools.

Not so simple to say follow them.
