now KLM and Ba banned for two weeks.
Win for Cathay?
All seems a little draconian to me. Weren't these people tested before getting onboard? False positive, false negative aside, how is this the airlines' fault if proper procedures are followed? |
What happens when Cathay eventually has someone test positive and they get banned?
I agree this seems a bit silly since a lot of it is out of the airlines control |
the Nethlands is a low risk country so no requirement for a pre boarding check. Assume the pax lied about being in a LRC for 14 days and this fact could have been garnered by proper checking of paperwork/ passport
|
Thanks for the explanation, although looking at the numbers and they way the Dutch have dealt with their little Covid-19 adventure, I wouldn’t Class them as low risk.. that aside, same for the U.K.?
|
the U.K. is a High Risk Country so need a negative test to board.
there is a v efficient testing facility at LHR |
So how is it BA’s fault that a covid negative person boards and then offloads in Hong Kong covid positive?
Can’t see the logic in that. |
Won't belong before CX get banned flying home also
|
indeed. Beggars belief
|
Yet CX has 7 cases in the same period... Logical

" As a passenger flight (BA027) operated by British Airways (BA) arriving from London of the United Kingdom to Hong Kong on December 8 had four passengers confirmed to have COVID-19 through specimens collected at the DH's Temporary Specimen Collection Centre (TSCC) while one passenger failed to comply with requirements specified under the Prevention and Control of Disease (Regulation of Cross-boundary Conveyances and Travellers) Regulation (Cap. 599H), the DH thus invoked the regulation to prohibit landing of passenger flights from London operated by BA in Hong Kong from December 12 to 25, 2020."

It's difficult to imagine a more foolish and incompetent HK Govt. than this one...
|
Writ large. Next will be banning CX from operating from its home port. !

JMock
Why wasn't this picked up during testing in London? False negative? If this happens to Cathay, that's a two week grounding of the entire airline.. |
Needless to say that there is BS politics involved in this story.
If the UK and Netherlands apply reciprocity, it will go a great deal forward towards getting the issue solved. |
Oasis
I wont shed a tear if this happens . Hopefully the Europeans will retaliate and prevent cx from flying to the EU. Period. After all, asian airlines were the major driving force behind the global spread of the disease way back in January . |
The key word here is 'ASYMTOMATIC' .
Sick with no symptoms. |
The key letter is 'P'.

Would hazard the following "politically correct" response from the UK, or the Netherlands, to Hong Kong. "Given that according to your verdict our Covid testing produced a failure result, it would be pointless to continue with, for instance, CX flights from the UK to Hong Kong, given that the passengers on those flight will still be tested by our test providers, which, and according to your verdict, are failing in the Covid testing being provided." |
Well I for one completely agree with the ban. It's not like this is a virus that 99% of the people infected recover from...oh, wait :hmm:
|
mngmt mole
Disappointed you’re in THAT camp of thought. if there is a widespread outbreak in Hong Kong and everyone in Hong Kong got covid, not only would 80000 people die, by your calculations, more would die due to lack of hospital services. not to mention long covid. Nothing to sneeze at, pun intended. but yea, the ban is silly |
