Actually I’m seeing $1133 SYD-LHR right now on 19th on 100/251. No transit issues then.

its not the seat . That’s easy. It’s the avoidance of the 14 day quarantine.
Unlikely without a through revenue tkt

edited to say, what a bunch of heroes in your own minds you initial responders are

Just book a revenue ticket, not a problem. Forget about an ID90 transit. Not going to happen.

Easrwestoften,

During normal times we would be able to help more, however with Covid everything at the airport is being dictated by government policy/port health. This is changing regularly.

Make sure your daughter has the required Australian customs permission to leave the country by applying ahead of time on the website. As soon as she enters the terminal in Sydney she is going to have to produce that exemption number to prove she lives overseas.

She may have to settle any outstanding tax owning to get Australian government permission to leave. The process at the moment is very much thinking this is a one way forever deal. They limit the number of seats inbound to 50 per flight.

She will need to wear a mask to get on the CX flight.

The flight will be an education for her, you will see some people covered from head to toe in all different types of plastic from raincoats to grab wrap.

As explain up thread, she will need a full fare ticket SYD-LHR and check her luggage through to LHR to meet the HKG port health requirements.

You don’t want her being sent to a government camp for 14 days.

Make sure she reads the signs in the HKG terminal carefully and takes the transit passenger route.

Sorry to join late - BA staff have always been very helpful.

Sounds like you already bought a ticket but she could have done it with two CX sectors if the ground staff in SYD would have issued the 2nd boarding pass and tagged the bags all the way to LHR. Big gamble but it might have worked out.

Exit permit as a British citizen is not required.

Actually the Aussie government told every foreigner to go home months ago.

Good luck

Since when we're jump seats around? Surprised you even mentioned it! Ask Pablo Mason about that.

Thanks for that - how silly of me!
Give my regards to Pablo Mason (whoever he is) though.

Thanks for all the helpful (and not so helpful, but nonetheless entertaining) posts folks.

i have managed to book my daughter full fare with BA (codesharing with Cathay from SYD - HKG), so hopefully all transit issues are sorted within reason. I guess the rest depends on the ever-changing rule sets we now live by....

Hope I can return the favour some day if anyone needs help?

ATB

Mike
