Airlines Reaction to COVID 19

Hi boys and girls and any other genders that there may be. Just have a little look around the Globe and see how other airlines are treating their staff. Then look at how CX are treating us. I am not saying that things will not get worse, they probably will, but a couple of weeks of unpaid leave repaid over 4 months to reduce the financial burden seriously, how generous. Senior managers saying that they do not intend to lay off staff until absolutely necessary. And still the pit bulls and trolls come out to attack our company. I'm very glad I don't work for the leprechaun.

Agreed. However, which leprechaun ? There’s at least 3 to choose from.

What? You mean that great company that after they took SLS from Pilots in Australia, they are throwing them on the street with no pay from 1st May?

Is that gen ? What source ?

Glob: I believe some info has been in AAOA comms.

But what about Trafalgar's pathetic "battle plan"? UnitedABX and FlyingClog are not going to be pleased about this thread...

Yes, we could be worse off, but lets not forget:
Our great company paid all HKG workers in effect 13th month pay and not the pilots - twice, so that's two months of pay.
They also changed the profit sharing scheme so in effect there isn't one.
They took $4billon out of the company in fuel hedging (I still believe it is an inside job)
The commuter roster is an insult of an offer
POS18 really is a POS. Look at the latest new joiners - flight instructors with a few hours on 172s. Most likely a good bunch of blokes, but not experienced pilots. Our managers devalue our profession with each of these cheap sudo-airline pilots
According to a recent FT article we have enough cash to last 6 - 9 months with zero pax. Our great company will use the current problems to come at us again and screw us over. Not because they have to, but because they can.

Dsteve. What's your plan then?

ControlledRest, unfortunately the hits will keep on coming. You are probably aware by now that the Australian based pilots have just been stood down without pay. We can expect all bases to now be attacked.

I suspect the master plan is to close the bases and have everyone on the commuter package instead of bases. Much cheaper and something they believe they could effectively manage. This won't end well.

I believe it was half pay.

I believe you are correct Wobbly. Much better deal

Better than the alternative.

mngmt mole 16th Apr 2020 02:30

Yes indeed.

What does strike me as incongruous within the group is the KA cadets graduating and being employed as COS18 F/O.

mngmt mole 16th Apr 2020 03:11

I think the disbelief at all things CX/KA will only continue to mount. Our management is obviously beginning to implement some fare ranging and radical plans.

Flex88 17th Apr 2020 01:32

The US has come out with a plan for opening up business in 3 distinct phases...
Phase 1 does NOT include pleasure travel and Phase 1 could last a considerable time ( 1 > 3> months IN particular to Asia)...

My wild guess,,,,, international travel will be 10 years, if ever, getting back to the levels it was 2 months ago..

Not many Westerners (incl EU) looking forward to that "Asian" vacation..

main_dog 17th Apr 2020 02:08

With the irony that many of those “Asian” countries have dealt with the crisis far better than the EU and the US, and are currently (and for the foreseeable future) the safer places to be!

cxorcist 17th Apr 2020 02:11

Asian vacations??? Forget about that! China’s economy is going to tank as western nations move their manufacturing and supply chains back to reliable, responsible nations.

China better beef up their military, because the economic warfare is going to be ending. Nobody has an appetite to play ball with the ChiComs anymore. I worry CX and many other Asian airlines will be among the casualties of China’s recklessness.

Maybe that’s because it’s most common for these pandemic viruses to be hatched in “Asia”, specifically China. Perhaps China should have stopped all international travelers from leaving Wuhan, not just those traveling domestically within China.

main_dog 17th Apr 2020 02:34

Humanity (and specifically Asia) definitely needs to clean up its act re wildlife markets. Not forgetting that many recent epidemics arose elsewhere (Marburg/Ebola in Africa, Swine flu in the US, MERS in Saudi).

To be fair though, half of the world’s population is Asian and they tend to be more densely populated countries, stands to reason that a good half of new human diseases should spring up here.

That’s right and HKG in particular has done fantastically well with only one new case yesterday and that was imported.
The big problem now is how do we open our border and start flying again. No one is suggesting a solution yet, it is all supposition and guesswork.
Oz base now on 50% pay. What is their next move with the rest of us?
