The company is telling the staff very little about what’s going on, lots of rumours floating around, however Ol’ Danny Boy seems to get all the goss from them. Will we also find out we’ve been personally laid off via the SCMP? :ugh:

Things were very shaky even before the Wuhan virus, with the current situation affecting air travel and the shock waves in China battering the parent company's finances, it must be game over soon. Even well established players with limited exposure to China are feeling the effects, HKA are unable to quickly diversify into alternative markets and lack a backer with deep pockets to carry them through the present crisis. Not looking good.

Have I got this right ? I'm happy to be corrected, CX want to me to hand over three weeks of my pay to help em out of a tough spot, but at the same time are going to effectively use that money to pay new Pilots from a competitor (HKA) to do my job more cheaply. Can anyone explain why one single Pilot would volunteer for that deal (SLS)? Seriously, I fee like they think we are literally, too stupid to insult.
|
You're not.
Wise up a little more and move on. They will replace us with Mongkok Taxi drivers if they could. Don't give them a penny, start sorting a new position outside China, and wait for them to pay you the 3 months notice period. Take them for their money. Swire isn't your friend. |

A more corrupt, morally bankrupt bunch of inbred cretins you couldn’t dig out of a Tarantino movie. |
Well the time has come, first round of crew layoffs announced. Good luck to all the fellow aviators affected.

A tough time coming in the industry, I reckon this Corona is going to cause many job losses. Good luck to all involved, hope other options come up quickly.

When did Spirit Airlines start flying to HK? J/K - I hope they can pull out of this.
|
|
So if Air China buys HK Airlines, that means Cathay will have a share in HKA....interesting

Bull **** of a company. Hope it shuts down quciklyyy

Amazing that HKA are still going during these times, however, not many flights going out though. When will they finally pull the plug?
|
Well HKA has already trimmed their staff to the bare minimum.
Most pilots took voluntary NPL. And they are paid nowhere near A or B scalers at CX. .....who knows? Until the next cash injection from CDB I would say...... |
Surely they're not going to make payroll this month
|
With load factors so low I wonder why they even bother to fly the few daily flights. Will there be more letters in the mailbox this month?

Y
Well, you’re missing the point if you’re using A scale pay as a reference and saying that B is 33% less
that’s 33% off a pay scale that’s extremely generous by industry standards. With the current pandemic , less than 10% of passenger flights are still operating. The larger the fleet and crew numbers , the higher cost in terms of lease and salaries. Bleeding cash by the day. The bigger the fleet the more the costs HKA is still paying salaries and annual bonus up till April. The pilots are doing their part in this crisis. The questions is what are the guys across the tarmac doing ? Besides whining about the company here. |
With the benefit of too many years of hindsight, it still needs reminding that in fact the "A" scalers of CX provided the foundation of its reputation and dominance. It's too easy to forget that many such pilots upgraded to Captain only 3-4 years into their careers at CX. Most in their early to mid 30's, but with many hours of civilian or military flying. CX knew they could entrust the safety of their airline to such people, and allow it to expand quickly to dominate the HK aviation scene, and rake in billions of profits along the way. I suggest everyone ponder the reality of the average new hire now upgrading to Captain in 3 years....
