Baggage Scanning via Crew channels

The last few days, It seems they’ve ramped up Crew bag scanning. I don’t know why but apparently rumour has it that we might try and sneak in riot gear.
Someone has to have rocks in their head to do something like trying to bring in riot gear while operating.
My feeling is they just want to show how “Compliant” they are with Big Brother and appease him at any cost.
Also they’re confiscating meats for their up and coming BBQ

You're in Hong Kong and don't know what Riot Gear is ?
Google image it and you will have your answer...

Been thinking about this. If you live on the island, you probably have already had a whiff of tear gas. It seems reasonable that I might purchase a gas mask on a trip and bring it back just to be safe when heading off for dinner. Is it illegal to bring in a gas mask?

why would you want to potentially risk your position in HK just to try and make a point? anyone trying to bring gear in to HK is being foolish

No. Serious question. Lot of tear gas floating around Central on weekends now. If I wanted a gas mask, is it illegal to bring one in? I don't think it is, and therefore what is the point of customs searching.

Personal use use is fine, it’s the folks who bring suitcase loads full for distribution, of which is illegal.

It's not illegal, but it would, of course, be regarded by the CAAC, and hence by CX, as "supporting the protests". Which is now a dismissal offence under CX Employment terms apparently.

And anyone reading any of this would conclude that there is a stable and secure career to be had with CX and Hong Kong. Ok. Good luck with that.
