A great deal for retirees...
Have I really got this right?
I see that retirees are now allowed to buy "Firecracker" tickets for themselves and friends. These are discounted tickets that are NOSUB and at present are restricted to flights departing "form" (sic) HKG. The discount from the fare charged on the CX ticketing web site is a whopping 2% I fail to comprehend how a sentient being could think this up and spend oxygen and wiggly amps writing the proposal and think that it was a good idea. Anyone can get a better discount than that by using a consolidator or travel agent. The standard of middle management must be awful if this is not a wind up. |
The last line of your post: correct. About sums up why this airline is heading for the dustbin of history. Every level of management in this airline is incompetent, self-serving and deluded. That is why the pilots with an ounce of self-preservation instinct are making plans to leave.

There will probably be a few more retirees now the CMP people have confirmed W patterns are out.
|
so the guys who have had the best rosters for a long time now are going to retire early because they have rosters that are still better than those on the bus or jumbo. OK

As a retiree, I never fly Cathay. BA have looked after me and my Family far, far better than CX ever did. Lots of upgrades, (champagne if they can't x 2).
I'd rather pay more than deal with any Cathay check-in Staff. Keep your 'discounts'. Totally irrelevant. |

Arfur I have flown BA using standby tickets on numerous occasions . Never once have I been upgraded or given champagne but I live in eternal hope . why CX didn’t formulate an agreement with BA and many other airlines for standby travel in both EY and Business class is beyond me . You would only get a seat if there was one available so it’s not going to make an iota of difference to anyone except those travelling . But of course those who arrange these sorts of things would have to give reciprocal rights which they seem terrified of doing . Or maybe it’s just a vindictive move to stop staff enjoying anything other than cattle class . |
Not much of a deal. Then again, with the way things are going with POS 18 and CMP, are you really going to want to fly in the back when you retire anyway ? Or even in the near future ? |
TT - I have a friend who is a BA Senior Captain who is happy to "put in a good word" with the operating crew. Don't do it that often but the strike rate for upgrades is good. Recently, with F & J full the CSD came down and brought us a glass of bubbly and then the relief Captain came down and apologised again!! Brilliant. BA Flight Crew have much more authority re seating than we used to have in CX. Upgrade your mate in CX and the Chief would report you. Do the same in BA and the CSD brings you a glass of something nice. Culture I guess.

United. You are wrong. My wife and daughter were upgraded to Business as was I but the Crew subsequently asked me to move to Premium Economy - sub load EY tickets.Don't say "it doesn't happen" when I just told you it does!! That was October 2016 by the way. |

Hope BA don't read Pprune. They might call in the crew on that October 2016 who clearly broke the rules. Any way, I always suffered. Every time I turned up at check-in wearing my best suit (only had two), ID90 but crew label clearly on display, I was, mostly down graded & bumped off. Last staff travel trip with GF using my retirement "award" of "free, firm" resulted in being bumped off at BAH but on appeal,Capt allowed use of jump seats in the rear galley. Glad to be out of it really. I just use the Loco's now, turn up in me shell suit & enjoy like the rest of em. Ooooops, was supposed to fly up to LHR with Cobolt on 23rd ! See ?
