Jet2 vs Norwegian and Ryanair

Jet2 just awarded it's pilots a 6% pay rise and 30% increase in hourly pay.
By contrast Ryanair announced a 12% profit decrease warning and closed two bases in Germany.
Norwegian stops flights ex Belfast and closes it's Edinburgh base.

Jet2 recruiting 200 pliots this winter. Ryanniar trying to re-locate 100 and Norwegian stagnant.

RYR needs ca 1000 pilots the next 12 months , Buddy!

Hopefully you’ve made your money at CX and you’re going to Jet2 with a bucket of cash and slotting into the LHS. Because a payrise on f*ckall still isn’t much. How does LHS at jet2 compare to RHS CX London base?
Norweigan is doomed, I suppose at least Jet2 is profitable.

Oh dear morning.....I hear that no longer suffering the malevolent incompetents that pretend to be ‘managers’ at CPA more than compensates for any financial shortfall.

It doesn’t take too many years of zero pay rise to catch up elsewhere in the real world where most airline managers realise that drivers aircraft are in short supply.....especially experienced ones.

But no doubt you’ll be leaving that problem for your replacement to cope with morning.

You can always count on MC coming in with a management slanted comment (as he is management). MC, no pilot at CX can "make money" anymore, as you and your ilk have reduced the job at CX to a sad excuse of an airline job (I won't even use the word "career"). At least at an airline at Jet2, you can live near home, enjoy a more positive culture and a management that is making positive efforts towards the concerns of their pilots. At CX, you can only be assured of years of misery. But you already know that don't you...?

A and C 1st Oct 2018 22:27

Perhaps MC would care to illuminate us all as to why as he says Norwegian is doomed.

mngmt mole 1st Oct 2018 22:42

At worst, Norwegian will be bought out and then expended by either a competitor, or a deep pocket private equity group. They have built up too large and recognisable network to just disappear. MC is an idiot (management, so that invective comment was somewhat redundant).

Because he has just accepted a management position there.

why is this being discussed in fragrant harbour

Very relevant as this is where people are going.
I know two who have gone to J2 and two to Noggie recently.
C scale guys now know that there is no intention of ever increasing their package with the introduction of 2018. An FO I flew with recently just had his rent put up, this will happen every two years with no increase in his compensation. He is accelerating his plans to leave. B scalers will hang on until it all gets too difficult.

Use up 20 minutes of your life and do a google search of Norwegian of anything written in the FT or by any European airline analysts. BA’s parent group picked through the financials and didn’t like much of what they saw. It astounds me that people, sensible people, head off to other airlines with zero due diligence of the place they’re joining. It is swamped in debt, it would take the smallest stagnation in the economy of Europe for the airline to come crashing down. Maybe it will be fine but it’s stupidly optimistic in the growth and marketshare it requires for the airframes it’s ordered.
People need to get out of the dark ages of thinking there’s a route structure or name that’s worth taking over. There isn’t, Norwegian could go under tomorrow and other airlines would simply pick up the market share, much like the last 2 dozen airline failures in Europe in the past decade.
On another note, the amusing part is I doubt anyone on here singing the praises of Jet2 has any idea of what they pay
DEC.

Morning Coffee, it's funny how you seem to want to comment on the "money" that J2 pays, completely ignoring the irony that most pilots in CX can't, a) afford to buy an apartment, b) properly educate their children, c) provide adequate medical care for their families, d) save anything for retirement. At least with J2, most of their pilots can live in a green, clean and happier place, with their families enjoying an actual life. CX has reduced the package to a point that even the lowest cost carriers look good in comparison. With the added bonus of most likely not having to be subject to the cast of psychotic characters that is CX management. Time to Win !

morningcoffee 2nd Oct 2018 22:05

M.Mole So have you read the Jet2 thread about the zero rostering practices and how if you’re coming from the likes of BA it’s a massive change because roster disruption is endemic in summer?
What about the one about how there’s year 1 pay for the LHS and that’s it, no yearly increase?
Whatabout the thread about doing a sim crewup every month or two, which is considered your check so 6 PCs a year?
Or the high fail rate for command upgrades....

I have no idea if you’re English or not but go ask the wives of your English colleagues how many of them would move to Newcastle for “quality of life”

There’s a reason it’s cheap to live up north.....

Each to their own

Callsign Kilo 2nd Oct 2018 22:21

Jet2 pay their Captains slightly over £106K pa (basic) after the recent pay raise. There’s also sector pay based on sector length (in nm) where sectors are defined as short, medium or long. Rates have appeared on the likes of ppjn- these have all been very recently increased by 30%. Duty pay is £1.90 per hour. Package includes company pension (10% of gross basic for Captains paid by company), pilot income protection, death in service benefit, private medical cover etc. A profit share scheme will be launched next year.

Unless you’re on the 757, crew don’t fly 450 to 500 hours a year! Winters are quiet and you’re home pretty much every night (bar sims, the very odd charter or the occasional away from base duty). Despite its massive growth it still remains a pretty friendly outfit.

Not CX money (never will be) however CX doesn’t sound all that attractive these days and neither does the prospect of attempting to live in Hong Kong. No offence intended.

In the long and distinguished history of people writing complete horsesh*t on PPRUNE this may be my favourite yet.

A management apologist with the golden ( I’m guessing B- scale?) handcuffs on, stuck in an obscenely expensive congested, polluted, noisy, corrupt sh*thole making a judgement on the quality of life in Newcastle based, apparently, on the low cost of living. (Yes, I am ex CX).

Oh, the irony!

With logic like that are you not due a promotion? Head of Fuel Hedging, perhaps?

Air Profit 3rd Oct 2018 02:28

MC, you are aware that the pilots of this airline consider your comments comical at best. Sitting in your cubicle at Kitty City and coming up with the drivel you do must be quite fulfilling. Always enjoy reading your latest attempt at comedy. Oh, and btw, some of us like Newcastle, and certainly the North.

Freehills 3rd Oct 2018 06:49

Some very nice & liveable places in and & around Newcastle. Jesmond, Morpeth, Whitley Bay, or commute in from a village in the hills. Though flat cap, whippet are obviously required :)

They probably do as Jet 2 held a recruitment road-show in Hong Kong, successfully recruiting some pilots. However, it's not just about the pay. It's about the lifestyle and quality of life, something which is eroding rapidly here. One CX Captain recently left for a DEC position at Jet 2 and he's never been happier. What management have to ask is how the legacy carrier of choice got itself into a position that pilots are now happier working for a low cost airline.

[QUOTE=What management have to ask is how the legacy carrier of choice got itself into a position that pilots are now happier working for a low cost airline.[/QUOTE]

You're looking at this the wrong way around. Our leaders see people leaving a legacy carrier for a low-cost operator and have reasoned that if CX offers a similar low-cost package, we'll draw highly experienced pilots from other legacy carriers. It all makes sense now. :ugh:
