I hear several guys complaining about time to command, 5 years as a SO then 10 as a FO which makes it about 15 to command. If you would join the likes as QF, AA, BA or KLM I think it’s even more. So the issue here is the lifestyle in HK and how the company treats you so please stop complaining about your career progress at CX. |

It's nonsense, I joined BA in 2015 and could apply for a 320 command now. |
So how long for a wide body command at BA then |
Natka, I take the bait. Please state the time to command on a widebody at these airlines |
AND Not only what everyone else has said but even if you DO manage to upgrade and kinda sorta get what you’d like — even on a base. Rosters don’t really exist; trips are rostered with reserve preceding them and extra open assignable days trailing them. The trips are placeholders for a reserve window with assigned duties that can vary wildly. So whar you essentially have is a reserve roster. Picture spending your entire career — regardless of bid, preference, or seniority — on a reserve roster. In a sometimes long haul operation transiting multiple time zones with multiple body clock swaps. |

Time to the left seat is a very small part of the picture. How and where do you want to spend that time waiting to upgrade? |
Most junior Captain at Delta hired in January 2017! That’s why there are literally NO Americans joining CX, as in none. Why would they? 15 years at CX on no housing is eternity. You guys really need to do your homework. Check the property market... Everybody comes to CX with fake hopes and starry-eyed dreams, only to be disappointed when the goalposts move yet again. CX is fool’s gold. It’s only a good deal if you have literally zero flight time, and even those could learn to fly so many better ways than in the CX petri-dish. Military, GA, corporate, regionals, LCCs... all are better places to cut your teeth than CX. If you think you will get good training at CX, think again. CX is a checking airline, there are very few good trainers and instructors here. |
If you get in now at any NA carrier you’ ll be on the left seat in 6-7 max. BA even shorter moreover, as CX ex said, it is how you spend this years in waiting. For those fortunate to have experienced other airlines you know the difference |

To all SO’s and prospect new joiners: what do you think when a Captain with 10+ years Command applies elsewhere? Please go and inform yourself if this happens at ANY BA, QF, or legacy carriers. What to think when a skipper is considering joining as SO the home national carrier? The sad thing is that Cx management thinks they are cutting edge and smarter but au contrarie they created disaster after disaster. bail out if you can. |
Speaking of bailing out, does anyone have an idea what HK$ you're looking at to break your bond as an SO? Or what is said bond and how is it pro-rated over the years?
|
Bonds are illegal in HK i thought.

No, bonds are not illegal in HKG; just ask any lawyer.

Just don't ever come back to Hong Kong again, easy peasy.
In fact, why the hell would you ever want to? |

lets analysis this train wreck. Barny aka barney swires is worth 2.5 billion pounds, married with 4 kids and lives in kent. To be sure the mansion is endless and on a property you can not see the other end of.
the average pilot either lives in the **** hole Hong Kong and spends most of his life at 35000 feet or some substandard hotel in some god forsaken place on the planet. if you commute ,all of your life will be at 35000 feet. The only upside to this is you will have a smart uniform to prance about in and get laid to rest in. in the beginning , prior 70's QX was leading airline. Now from what I can see it is the dregs. Anyone going there needs some serious head exam. p.s. spent 35 years with major airline back in the world. Was great. Made good $ for a 75 hour month with good crew rest. Average 4 atlantic crossings a month. Working up to average of 100 hours with min crew rest layovers will kill crew and probably some paxs looking for cheap flight and an early grave. Today If i had a kid thinking of airline work I would pick up a sharp pencil and poke their eye out, just one......they would thank me later. pps. and guess what we allowed the management pricks to do it to ourselves over the years. i |
