Jet 2 named best UK airline

Congrats to those former CX pilots who made the jump in the past 18 months or so. Further in the article is a list of the worlds Top 10 airlines. Guess which airline doesn't even make the list....call me shocked.

That's a British survey remember, I somehow think that the likes of Qantas or Thai should be in Jet2's position! I've flown Jet2 it's pretty average.

Trafalgar 9th Apr 2018 12:51

You do realise the poll was 'UK's best airline'....:hmm:....and i've flown CX, they have become pretty average as well. I bet you get salt and pepper on Jet 2...

If you pay for it you will!

How come the top 6 weren't UK airlines then?

Tripadvisor is a very dubious source of information. You just don't know that the reviewers are impartial. And as Jet 2's target market are Kevin and Tracey who are dead chuffed they got to Ibiza and back for a hundred quid each for their one holiday of the year and will probably write a glowing report because they know no better.

My experience of Jet 2 from a flight 2 years ago is of a knackered B737-300 with chemical toilets, a horrid interior full of adverts and incessant PAs trying to get you to buy crap. I wouldn't rate them above CX or KA.

enoughisenough_ 10th Apr 2018 03:26

I don't see it winning any best employer awards...

If you think cx has bad staff travel and benefits, try working for Jet2.

raven11 10th Apr 2018 03:37

Enoughisenough....

Your post speaks volumes...Instead of celebrating that we have yet to sink to level of Jet2, why not instead compare our staff travel and benefits to any of the following airlines:
Qantas
British Airways
Lufthansa
Air France
Air Canada
United
Delta
American Airlines
FedEx
UPS
Southwest
Air Alaska
Never mind all the first world airlines to compare to, even the Dragon Air Pilot benefits package is a benchmark to consider...wouldn’t you agree?

I wasn't the one making comparisons to jet2, Traf was doing that by suggesting it is a viable alternative to CX..

Air Profit 10th Apr 2018 03:51

EIE, at least they are on the list. CX doesn't rate on either of the two lists quoted. I realise your are a management lackey (a review of your posts makes that abundantly clear), so let me help you: CX is pathetic in just about every area that matters when it comes to quality of career. Yes, every area. So yes, Jet 2 are certainly a viable alternative, especially for a Brits who wants to be back home and have a life that is more than hand to mouth in a shoebox living in Tung Chung and wondering if they will ever be able to live a normal life. Several have already left for Jet 2 because they woke up to the misery that is the present day CX experience.

So when are you applying? Yeah didn't think so..

United, BA or QF didn't make the list either, so are they "pathetic" like CX too?

Avinthenews 10th Apr 2018 04:55

Swire sells HK$120m apartment to its chair John Slosar - The Standard

Come on, this thing rents for $59,000 a month apparently := everyone can live this lifestyle.

Air Profit 10th Apr 2018 05:09

Well, as I'm not planning on living in the UK, no. Am I leaving?, yes, already finalised, so don't need to debate you on that point (and several of my peer group are heading for the same destination fyi). As for QF and BA, they may be as "pathetic" as CX, but at least you have a semblance of normality vis-a-vis pilot career expectations with those airlines, and you can live at home. Neither of which you will ever experience staying at CX, which IS pathetic, mainly because managers like you have destroyed the airline and failed to provide a legitimate reason for staying here in HK. If there was a "Top 10" list of failed airline management, CX would have a high ranking. :D

Air Profit 10th Apr 2018 05:16

It is worth adding the fact that QF and BA are going to run a sword right through the heart of CX, taking as many pilots as they can. QF in particular is headhunting every Australian license holder they can find (my FO from this weeks trip is off there shortly). But why would you want to live back in Aus, hit the beaches on your days off, enjoy the weather, clean air and see your kids grow up healthy and happy. No, it's much better you cram into a 500 sq ft apartment in Tung Chung with wifey and the kids. Makes much more sense.

So how many pilots are UA, BA, or QF losing to CX? Oh, that’s right. Zero!

Just looking at his photo doesn’t fill me with very much confidence .
Why would you spend $120 million on a flat that was valued at $84.5 last December
So either swires are telling porky pies or my no confidence feeling is correct

Because property prices are inflated in hk and everyhing sells above valuation?
I think you will find $120 mil is quite modest for a property on the peak if you have a look on squarefoot.

Trafalgar I can promise you, if you worked at this airline you would be 10 times as pissed as you are now.

No offence but it really makes it smile when you congratulate people for joining. You fly the best iron in the world and you saw some of the best times of both HK and the airline. Granted it changed but that alone is more than most get in a career.

If I was someone who felt forced to leave to a small north uk lcc, I’d be offended.

Whoever agrees with this thread, I strongly recommend to get in touch with reality before you make a terrible decision.

EFIS Check 11th Apr 2018 12:01

Oh What A joy

Tea Time:
On the subject on sound financial decisions, can you remind me who the CFO or CEO was at the time the fuel hedging contracts were signed ?
Perhaps the same person who just bought himself a flat ?!

Maybe he was just sick that everybody knew what the interior of his old flat looked like and happy to pay a premium ?!
At least moving will keep Mrs. S busy and off youtube.

But hey, give it a few months and we will know what the new flat is like.

Before you ask, .... yes this is for real

Sorry about the drift

Despite having worked for Cathay in the glory days I now find myself at Jet2. And actually, it is pretty good...If even half of the Cathay diatribe here is true, and I am sure it is, then Jet deux is frankly a breath of fresh air. Shiney jet or heavy metal syndrome only lasts so long...
