A new chairman/ broom?

Just announced JRS is off.

Replaced by Merlin Swire. Well, it is his name on the side of the aircraft.

Still, for all those saying "well, if only London/ Swires knew", now London/ Swires is coming to HK

Sea Eggs 8th Feb 2018 12:16

but he is going to 'remain as Chairman of Cathay Pacific for a time to help and to support the Cathay team to see through its transformation program.'

Well it does make sense that a Swire should be at the helm when the fuel hedges come off this year and the airline starts making big money. And as the original hedges seem to have had his fingerprints all over them it is only fair that he should ride them out? (irony alert...)

It also seems to make corporate sense that if the airline is to be transferred out of Swire's control then it should be a Swire to do it. Has a nice tidiness to the transaction.

FWIW

JS is still chairman of the Cathay Pacific board. NOthing will change. Merlin is taking over at Swire Pacific, Swire Properties and HAECO. JS’s name will FOREVER be linked to the demise of Cathay Pacific.

That place needs a typhoon to go through the entire senior management. Its the only way CX will ever get out of the hole they are currently in.

The old Merlin was a fine, strong, powerful one of a kind engine powering aviation icons to victory and success.
This Merlin is just the beginning of the end with a brief to squeeze the last drop of blood out of Hong Kong's once great Airline.
Shame on the whole sorry bunch of asset stripping, selfish . Shame on you for being so arrogant as to call this one such a name. Should've been "Judas" Swire - nice ring to it.

Wasn’t Merlin the Great magician in King Arthur’s kingdom , maybe he can pull a rabbit out of his hat as well , but it would probably have contracted Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease which is more leathal than myxomatosis .no real symptoms the rabbit dies a horrible death sounds familiar

Then simply "resist". Show this pathetic excuse of a management that they are done. It's either them, or us. Figure it out.

Merlin had a crystal ball, didn't he? Hopefully this Merlin will bring his crystal ball and avoid future fuel hedging debacles.

Rather than pull a rabbit out of his hat, he would be more likely to pluck a ‘hare’ out of his bum.
