CX accountants quantify "going the extra mile"
 
It has always amazed me how accountants ( who now run this airline and businesses generally ) are able to quantify everything. Cost of a new aircraft, new livery and branding, TV advert campaigns, etc etc.
Now in CX they have surpassed themselves and quantified the goodwill and willingness of the company's captains to "go that extra mile".

It equates to HKD35,000 divided by 13. That is to say HKD2692 per month per captain.

To save having to pay this sum the company has sacrificed OTP, fuel saving tactics, enroute cost savings, typhoon planning, mentoring younger pilots, promoting CX brand and lost the respect, support and loyalty of every single captain in an airline that must expand to survive in an industry crying out for experienced jet pilots.

A shot in the foot ? An own goal ? They haven't quantified those yet but I assure them it is millions more than the HKD2692 they with held this week out of pure spite.

Penny wise, pound foolish ? Like the fuel hedging this act of deliberate discrimination will come back to bite them. Go quantify that !

You have nailed it. And it was out of pure spite. And that is why every pilot in this airline MUST act accordingly. It's no different than diplomacy: when one country takes diplomatic action (say, expelling embassy officials), the country affected must then respond with a similar action, to demonstrate that they will not be treated arbitrarily. It is no different with us and this gross insult. We MUST react, both as an Association, and individually. To not do so will only encourage similar actions, or worse. To ALL of my colleagues, please, show some spine and take your own individual action to demonstrate your outrage at the treatment of the senior pilots in this airline, and by extension, our very profession. There is NO other choice in the matter, and we all know it.

......as for the trifling monthly sum they saved....you can only laugh. My very next flight (when I return from 'illness') will cost them more than that amount in extra cost...and the next one, and the next one...etc. I hope the bean counters sit there stacking their pennies, while the pounds 'fly' by...)

Surrounded by accountants business leaders of yesteryear asked the accountant to tell them the success of otherwise of a decision made by others. A review after the fact. After all accounting is counting up what already happened. Accountants now hold sway, industry professionals a thing of the past.

Surrounded by them in a past career I can tell you at a corporate level they know the price of everything and the cost of nothing.

Projections were nice to have but leaders knew their business, they grew it and breathed it. Accountants do not.

Unless something has a column on the spreadsheet, it is neither costed, understood nor counted.

Goodwill may have a treatment for a business, but it isn't staff good will they attempt to quantify.

Thus simple things like fuel, not using personal phones for company business, simply withdrawing co-operation is completely foreign to them, or no tangible value and not counted. They will see the impact on the things they do count when pilots with draw just simple good will.

Trust and goodwill are therefore impossible to quantify, but their absence will be very readily measured.

I have just flown as a passenger. The Captain did his PA properly and professionally but I did detect a NFI tone in his voice which I'm sure other passengers would have detected too. That is what you get when you don't respect the Captains CX.

Exactly. Get a burner phone , register it on crew direct and then switch it off !

Result, no more roster changes when they call you on the way to work. No more “ dear #%%# we need-you to operate “ on your G , or weekend. No more annoying messages from the office. No more please call crew control when you get this message.

I’m loving it .

And attempted to make us look like fools to the rest of the staff (the cabin crew seem to think we are pathetic accepting such an insult). So, what are each of you going to DO about it? Do you not realise that if you don't react, then you are guaranteeing further attacks and cuts? Have you forgotten that AT also threatened our 15.5% prov fund? Have you forgotten the cuts already in our medical? WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR EACH OF YOU TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES ? :ugh: If this airline operates as normal over Christmas, then know by New Year that your career is done. Be certain of that. Either you grow some balls and take some action, or you can enjoy the rest of what will be a worthless career. This is the time each man and woman will determine their true character. I resigned from Training, and I am taking further personal action as I write. You?

Withdraw your cooperation. All the things professional pilots do outside the strict confines of contract are not counted and taken for granted. Their absence does show up though!
The only way an accountant understands an expense/cost is if he has a column on the spreadsheet to fit it in...
