I don't actually know. That is why I waited a considerable time to mention my leaving. I well know the nature of the beast I work for (and I emphasize the word 'beast').

Hey Traf,

Respect. I am not sure if I had a ping at you, but if I did, I apologize. It must have been hard for you to take the abuse, wanting to respond but knowing that you can’t… until now.

I think you are spot on. You have identified a couple of good avenues of defense. The coordinated resignation of C&Ts is potent and if it carried sufficient numbers, then perhaps nobody has to actually leave Training as the “aloof” management will start to listen to the “in-touch” management and this entire folly will be abandoned. DS is really well placed to lead this and surely he must recognize that his name needs to be the first at the bottom of any mass-resignation letter.

The other point you raise is the “unfortunate virus” or “Canadian Flu” as it known in some parts. It is a very nasty bug and both pilots and management needs to treat it with respect. Pilots are very susceptible to this virus and it can be debilitating for about 3 days (or longer with sick chit). It is the only flu known to be passed between humans by way of text message (I am told).

It has a very strange side-effect in non-infected people as it encourages them to book on airlines other than Cathay.

It’s also a virus that can uniquely cross the human/P&L interface and P&L accounts lose about $300M revenue a day. So for an infection of 3 days, an airline can lose $900m, which coincidently is the amount the DFO is trying to save. Doesn’t nature have a beautiful symmetry at times.:)

Respect Traf

It should have been the first thing he did on Day 1 of becoming the Chairman. But I let it slide. But when he then asked other companies to do the exact thing he should have done, it pretty much cemented my opinion about him. The recent happenings have enforced it even more.....

Hat tip to you, Traf

I am grateful for your integrity.

I believe having the courage to do what you believe to be the right thing to do at the time is exceptionally important (regardless of how the hand later plays out), and the comfort of conscience is something that you will remember throughout your life. Jobs come and go. Being of sound character lasts for all your life.

The poke the tiger in the eye analogy was interesting in that it's not the tiger that's sleeping!! It's constantly attacking your conditions and you're defending them with a stick !!
