Well this should be interesting...

Cathay Dragon, Cathay Pacific, Air Hong Kong - One big happy family!

Déjà vu for AHK in terms of ownership!

Cathay Pacific to acquire full control of Air Hong Kong

07JUL2017
Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok) has announced plans to buy out DHL Group of its 40% stake in Air Hong Kong (LD, Hong Kong Chek Lap Kok).

Cathay Pacific, which owns the majority 60% stake, said in a Hong Kong Stock Exchange disclosure on Friday, July 7, that it had entered into a non-binding MOU which will take effect on December 31, 2018 ending the two sides' current joint venture and block space agreements.

Other terms of the deal include Air Hong Kong and DHL Group entering into a sale/leaseback transaction regarding the carrier's eight A300-600(F) freighters. A new block space agreement will also be negotiated under which Air Hong Kong will sell space to DHL on an agreed network of overnight Asian freight routes.

There's no money in freight.

Just no money for YOU.

If memory serves, someone was screaming from the roof tops about AHK some years ago but it fell on deaf ears. The DFO, RH, wrote an email saying that it wasn't a big deal. Well, I guess we should have been paying more attention.

Sometimes the AOA just cannot see the forest through the trees.

A lot of new freighter commanders should be ready for the new COS17 and get ready to be transferred to AHK. Do not forget they have old A300s as well.

What should the AOA have done about it?

Exactly why one of our own (manager without portfolio, PE) is flying the A300 at the moment.

Could it be that DHL pulled the plug???

Loopdeloop 11th Jul 2017 10:22

But more importantly, will they bring back the old 70's porn star leather jackets now?

This was my initial reaction is why would DHL divest itself? Perhaps they will soon outsource to a new freight operator with a more efficient and reliable fleet now they have no strings attached to AHK. DHL is notorious for being swift and seeking the lowest cost service they can find in whatever market they enter. Maybe something bigger is in the works? Interesting move for sure.

Air Hong Kong might not be the only acquisition target... HK Airlines going cheap pretty soon by the sounds of it.
