In Flight Rest
What effect will this have on our rest on AUS and ME flights?
PALPA pilot takes nap in business class during flight | Daily Mail Online |
won't change anything and why should it?
|
Because the self loading freight now believe, as a result of this, that we're all napping in business class when they think we should be awake for 13 hrs, as opposed to taking legal, sanctioned and necessary rest. Never underestimate the capacity of the Daily Wail to spark off a good scare story.
Not helped by having only half the story of course; that, however, has never stopped the 'Wail in the past. And to round off the article, a half hearted attempt to explain controlled rest. |
...and let it not go without notice that this photo was taken by a cabin crew member, then put on the internet. Never forget who your 'friends' are inflight. Sad little business that it's become no?

Yes, 13 hours at the wheel.
Try it sometime |
Don't you have an autopilot?
|
I personally do not. Although I have lived my life as though I did. That may explain my delinquent bills, my wife's lover, and the distance of my children.
|
Chesty,
Do you want your pilot sitting at the front end for all 13 hours or awake for the important bit at the end? You can't have both. Most of my duties start around midnight body clock time. See how you feel after a couple of those with a few early morning starts thrown in for good measure. |
Are you really saying you can't land if you've been awake for 13 hours?
Makes you wonder how other people cope... |
There's a lot of factors that go into each days duty cycle. You won't always feel fantastic landing after 13 hours and sometimes after 6 hours depending on circumstances.
It's not a given that any human being stuck in a noisy dry tube at 6,000' cabin Altitude for 13 hours will feel fine and alert and at the top of their game after that 13 hours duty. We are all human. |
