Old F@rts

Back in 1998/99, the company introduced a special scheme to induce the more senior pilots (read: expensive) to take early retirement. I think it was called VSS. With all the focus on 'cost cutting', why not offer another similar scheme to clear out the last of the old f@rts that are still here? Two birds with one stone. :D

Oasis 17th Apr 2017 08:51

Great Idea, but the last ones are not here for the money....

AQIS Boigu 17th Apr 2017 08:51

Early retirement to become a Senior Sim Instructor...

Yonosoy Marinero 17th Apr 2017 09:05

That may just be the fleet that I'm on, but many of these old farts are actually quite pleasant gentlemen and very nice to fly with.

Or is someone desperate for an upgrade?

motley flight crue 17th Apr 2017 10:20

The 'old farts' are entitled to a career as well, not just move aside for little punks like you to get a command and sit in the left for 30 years. Maybe you concentrate on doing what your paid for... support the captain. Your turn will come, until then show some respect to the oldies. You may learn something that you haven't read in a book.

MENELAUS 17th Apr 2017 11:25

And vas was ****. 6 months pay. Or was it a year ?

Sam Ting Wong 17th Apr 2017 14:10

Old f@rts ( read : B scaler), have a good look at this post.

This is one of the guys you sacrificed your payrise and housing extension for at the last vote.

Congrats!
Well done!

.... the last of the old f@rts .......
but of course, you'll NEVER become an Old F@rt - will you ?

Old F@rts Unite ! It's the Young F@rts that are ruining the World !

Average Fool 20th Apr 2017 00:03

B Scalers are the old farts now?

Freehills 20th Apr 2017 01:58

Well, B scalers have been around for 24 years now, so yeah.

Dan Winterland 20th Apr 2017 02:13

Lets get rid of the B scalers so the C scalers can have it all. Then the company can introduce the D scale in the perpetual race to the bottom!

Apple Tree Yard 20th Apr 2017 02:44

Um, guys...I am one of the old farts. Obviously the irony was lost in my post. I want them to pay me off so I can leave this clown show. :ugh:

cxorcist 20th Apr 2017 02:55

You didn't lose me, ATY, but why would CX pay you to leave when they are short of pilots? Are you inferring that there will be a significant down-sizing?

Captain Dart 20th Apr 2017 06:14

They were short of pilots when they imposed sign/be fired/VSS in 99. The pilots had to be seen to be 'taking one for the team' and I would not be surprised to see it again from this lot.

If they offered a reasonable Voluntary Separation package now, I would be up there to sign it so fast, I would meet myself coming back.

That's the rumor. Around 15% or so.... Be AFRAAAAAAIIIDDD!!!

Scoreboard 20th Apr 2017 08:09

Laugh out loud so they have to throw out the c scale spiky hair group before the old farts....last in first out.....if its 15% over staffed

Liam Gallagher 20th Apr 2017 11:37

Does anyone recall what the terms of VSS were? If it's enough, I might call Noel and reform the band.

ACMS 20th Apr 2017 12:19

Yawn...........unless I win Tatts I'm sorry but I'm not going anywhere better soon. I'm not about to reach the top of those crap incremental pay tables to suddenly up stumps and go elsewhere.....

So suck it up, we've all been where you young Top Guns are, your turn will come soon enough believe me.

Sam Ting Wong 20th Apr 2017 12:33

The only "special scheme" the company needs to terminate old ( or young) farts is a posted letter and 3 month notice.

Which is why it would have been better to accept a pay offer when it was on the table.

I told you so.

main_dog 20th Apr 2017 12:37

That "payrise" came with onerous strings attached... the membership clearly decided it wasn't worth it.

You can disagree or "told you so" as much as you like, but it doesn't change the basic facts of a democratically taken decision.
