Hong Kong may well lay claim to being Asia's World City. Debatable I know.

Our Home City is a vibrant melting pot from all corners of the globe, driving business activity that oozes capitalistic opportunism, all in a rule based society that culturally is rapidly evolving. Fast paced, High Tech with 11,000 restaurant choices containing the 2nd most Michelin stars after Paris, all with the largest number per capita head of electric car chargers!

Fortuitously placed at the epicentre of the Worlds greatest growth region.

Cathay Pacific needs to stop resting on its laurels (as we lose droves of our front end customer base) and past kudos and really and truly step up and become ASIA'S WORLD AIRLINE. ........ Quickly, before Hong Kong Airlines DOES! :\

1. Employ based Cabin Crew from every corner of the globe, including Mong Kok.

2. Do the same with 80% of Cockpit crew, as Jeppesen are suggesting for the CMP to be efficient.

3. EMBRACE ALL CULTURES, ALL FOODS AND WINE and take a GLOBAL CX to the World and blow the competition away with how good we could be !

SAFETY .. EFFICIENCY .. CULTURALLY GLOBAL SERVICE with 50 x LANGUAGES .. AWESOME FOOD and WINE .. ON BOARD BROADBAND STREAMING NETFLIX .. VALET SERVICE AVBL AT EACH END .. SALT & PEPPER SHAKERS ...........

....... and all with INSPIRED WORLDLY Crew THAT ARE VALUED BY MANAGMENT .......... NOT SPUN BULL****.

Time to win? ......... We couldn't lose, if we did it properly.

Runnymede, good comments. You are just about the first person in the history of Fragrant Harbour who has offered positive suggestions.

I find Time to Win just hot air and more disappointment from poor top management. I would rather buy most of the pilot managers and C&T pilots a beer than nearly all the low grade arrogant wan$ers who write on PPRUNE.

I genuinely fear for the future of OUR airline, and it is OUR airline least we forget where our income comes from.

Management should look around.. the competition and see how the business and first class should look. Passenger DO travel with other airlines, so they do know what they are being offered, when they ride around in a dated aircraft (mutton dressed as lamb) and minimum service. Good luck for the future.

If management didn't spend every waking hour attacking employees maybe they wouldn't have taken their eyes off the ball with regards to our competition.

Our product is so vastly inferior now that our first class product is inferior to Emirates business class. Employees from every department are miserable and working at 70%, when was the last time you were on a flight that left on time? From the moment one of our premium passengers checks in, his experience will be sub-par. People with money have the power to choose and they have chosen, the premium traffic that makes all the profit are voting with their feet.

These people are gone and they are never coming back, can you blame them? This inept management team has whittled away at our product to fatten their bonuses, they have benefited from CX's reputation as a premium airline even though the service has been far from premium for quite some time.

The word is out and the traveling public know that CX is not worth the premium fares they charge, gee Ivan, why do you think the yields are falling? In all honesty, I think it is too late to change this downward spiral. This airline is doomed to fail and be eclipsed by the world's TRUE premium airlines.

With Ivan and his merry band of yes men at the helm, there with be no meaningful change. Instead of a comprehensive overhaul of the business which would clearly indicate the need for massive money to be spent on product improvement for the premium classes, management will instead continue to attack employees, deal in bad faith and further ruin what was once a great airline.

We are a service industry, you cannot succeed with unhappy employees, it affects the brand and the passenger experience. This TTW strategy is beyond a joke. The same tired old rhetoric from the same incompetent fools.

Also, Staff Travel is so woeful that WE fly on competitors all the time. When you get back to Cathay FRCL/J after others offering Premium on board facilities, it's simply embarrassing. What have these short sighted "accountants" done?? Business travellers will and have voted with their feet.

I applaud you for a positive and thoughtful post. However, many of your pilot peers have been saying these same things for years, both publicly and privately. It doesn't matter. "They" know better. We are "million dollar morons". Truth is, very few of us actually have a million dollars and many are not morons. We are at the coal face. We compare and contrast what we do and our product to that of other airlines. The work our pilots do is industry leading. Sadly, our airline's product does not follow suit. We have been milked by bean counters who think their financial spreadsheets tell the whole story of the airline. Though important, nothing could be further from the truth. Airline seats and cargo capacity is not a true commodity market. There are many inputs by both airlines and the customers which cannot be accurately measured by any computer. True leaders know about these nuances, but we don't have many of those in CX. We have zoologists and Oxford educated clones, most of whom have never had an original thought in their lives. They just emulate their predecessors and regurgitate information. Their education represents little more than qualifying for and surviving the meat grinder. Maybe this financial crisis will produce a real leader, but I wouldn't hold my breath. This is Swire. All they know how to do is take advantage of the underdeveloped world. Now that SE Asia is getting developed, they are struggling...

Alan Joyce ? He's a hatchet merchant. Remember Aer Lingus anyone ? Effectively an LCC now. Totally screwed over..even shutdown his own airline (QF) for a couple of days in some contrived spat with the engineers and ground staff. He's doing well with the EK tie-up; how long that remains to work remains to be seen. That is the danger to bringing in an outside CEO..They'll take a cane knife and a can pf petrol to whatever expat benefits are left...
That being said, he probably couldn't f+ck it up any more than the present incumbent.

Richard Anderson is available. He knows how to properly run a real airline, but you probably couldn't pay him enough to dip his willy into the CX cesspool.

Most likely, Richards first comment to the Swire board would be "we need to start by treating our employees properly". You can imagine how well that message would be recieved: "thank you Richard, we believe you will enjoy spending more time with your family, good day".

They have a history of calling external people in for consultation, at great expense, and then ignoring their input when they don't like what they hear... Haddon-Cave, Ian M etc. Or of commissioning surveys, the unpleasant results of which they then ignore. :{

In any case Runnymede, great post, wish we had someone with your outlook at the helm!
