Allowances going?
hearing more and more rumours that allowances at outports will no longer be paid as they are not contractual. This must all be a wind up

Eat cheap food, get food poisoning (real or fictitious), ground the jets! Simple. But you are right, the cabin crew would strike over this!

The pilots will bring peanut butter sandwiches. While eating such sandwiches they will pound their chest and make threats they know they will never follow through with.

Under the current system of cash allowances, CPA have to deposit millions of dollars/yen/euro's etc with Hotels around the world so that cash is on hand to distribute to Crew "on the spot".
Management would dearly love to stop this arrangement and credit the allowance in arrears with monthly pay. Cash would no longer be tied up and the administrative burden would be less. This is what most Airlines do. The disadvantage for the Cockpit and Cabin Crew would obviously be that this would then be subject to HK IRD tax. Definitely unpopular! |
I would not be surprised if the payment method was changed as apart of CMP. However, I very much doubt the allowance rates would change as the cabin crew would go ballistic, as allowances are a huge part of their compensation. CX has a penchant for treating all "crew" the "same". It would be difficult to justify paying the pilots less than the cabin crew, but anything is possible with this "management" team.

I think you will find that they already do. Have a look at the allowance sheet at the less popular cabin crew layovers. They get more to encourage them to turn up for the flight...

Settle down everyone. They are not going to stop paying allowances. The only question is 'if' they decide to stop paying them when we check in at the hotel, and instead credit them to our pay each month. :ugh: (and no, I do not want to see that happen either...)

A per diem rate per hour based on time spent away from sign on. Easy to administer, many modern airlines use this method. CX don't because they employ persons to claw money beck from you and can potentially rob you.

It's a huge pain the the arse, as you have to have many different currencies with you every month (in one month, I go to Japan, Europe, US, Thailand, etc...). Most airlines allow you to bid on where you go, so you can keep your multi-country hops to a minimum. With CX, without any real choice....you can hit 10 countries in a month easily (especially the cabin crew). This will prove to be yet another half brained idea, that will help push even more of the cabin crew out the door in frustration.

Unbelievable.... Just when you think this place can't get any more dysfunctional. Regardless of my feelings of what's happened to CX over the years....RIP.

Death & taxes, death and taxes Trafalgar. And if allowances go into pay packets, taxes will get even harder to minimise. Will IRD want to see receipts? (think with the UK IRD, they audit crew now and again to come up with a % of allowances that is "pay" vs "expenses")
