Ex-Yellowknife Pilot
I was watching an old "Ice Pilots" on TV and one of the pilots left Buffalo to join Cathay Pacific.
Anyone know how he got on in Hong Kong. Seemed a nice switched on type. |
I am not sure who your speaking about but I have flown with a guy who used to be in Buffalo flying DC3s. Hes doing fine.

Seemed a nice switched on type. :} |
He's a B777 F/O.

A 777 F/O seems great.
It shows that a good grounding in general aviation still counts for something. Good luck to him. |
Yea, I'm sure the CX training team really embraced his past experience.
|
I know this pilot and have flown with him as a member of my crew on a number of occasions. He is a fine young man and a competent and capable aviator - especially given his level of experience. We were fortunate to recruit him and will be lucky to retain him once he reaches a marketable threshold of experience. He is "one of the good ones" I would argue.

There is no substitute for good experience......
I wish we had a lot more like him...... |

Goes to WHITE NONE. How encouraging to read a post which gives good advice.

NH ; of course CX will nurture him along the way to a "marketable threshold of experience. Oh gosh, how did he get into CX without a "marketable threshold of experience" ?? Ooops, one of my mates will summize that blonde hair, blue eyes & pale skin along with answers to the Tech Quiz would help. Eh ?

I believe that I have flown with this gentleman. A fine Aviator.
Some years ago, I spent time at the 'giving' end of the CX training system. Pilots with Bush experience or similar, were always appreciated as being entirely practical. Of course there were the CX hurdles, but no big deal. I accept that there are Richard Craniums in C&T, as well as the ranks. The percentage is fairly constant. Methinks therefore; a minority on here make a lot of static, and should consider which decile they populate. |
LF ; you old stirer. You'll get us both into trouble with the PP, street cops . I have a lot of bush experience but that's not for these pages. I recall be rejected by CX many times after my "colourful" episode in the 70's but GA, bush, etc, would not have cut-it. Indeed, in the 80's, with ALL the boxes ticked (dare I say, ticked many boxes...damn, here I go again (!)), I was rejected, again, at the application stage because I had no "underslung" jet experience. I mean, c'mon ; 4 engine turbos, twin jet, trijet, collection (ok, two) boeings, useful P1 time on the boeings got me no further than the initial stage. Good fortune to Yellow Knife. Looking at the unhappiness that appears to exist in the current CX, once he has been nurtured into a "marketable" level of experience, he will have the foresight to move on.
