Agreed Flex.

That lot in the fleet office are like wheat, they sway in whatever direction the political wind is blowing...
GL prints platitudes that we should report errors in a non threat environment. But heaven help you if you report any issue and you are not the flavor of the month, you can expect a draconian reaction. Why would anyone risk their career by communicating with the 3rd floor, learn to protect yourselves first & foremost... |
Maybe Ivan is suffering from "Management Regression"
No problem though, tons of very senior highly experienced managers around to take up the slack in every department, each with relevant experience.
Anybody having maintenance issues or worries these days? No worries, the "GM Maintenance Engineering" has had "Extensive" training as an "Engineering Trainee" ( 1 yr 7 months):D So don't worry, were in good hands. https://hk.linkedin.com/in/matilda-chan-4bb4375a |
Seriously, you just can't make this sh*t up. One year and seven months of "intensive engineering training".... hahahaha. And people question whether or not this airline is on its way to ruin. :ugh: (...I particularly love the bit that starts, "as a senior airline executive".....bwahahahaha)
Have sent this to my ex-CX South African engineer friend....let go several years ago. I think he had 38 years real experience. He's going to LOVE this. |
Words just can't describe this.....

Hw to build any dedication or loyalty when the gig only lasts 24 months. Then you are moved on to the Tug boats in Jesselton.

Another messy article re the "caring equal opportunity company" in SCMP today... Where's Ivan ??

Ivan's in the elevator... but seriously... hedging apart, this time seems different...

Agree Maxindie. If I were an assistant general manager of inflight bakery products, I would be updating my CV/ starting to get concerned. The iron rice bowl may be made of pottery this time round. Good time to either be operationally critical, or able to point directly to revenue you bring in

People keeps forgetting that most of CX HKG Engineering team doesn't actually perform the hard work of maintaining airplanes, all those hard work are outsourced to HAECO. CX Engineering in HKG are mostly involve in planning, which is just as important. CX Engineering at outport actually do more maintaining then any HKG team. |
GM Engineering Operations
CXHK
Give me a break, She is the GM of Engineering !!! One would like to expect that a person in that position have much "relevant experience" in the actual job of Aircraft Engineering.. NOT the admin jobs you mentioned in her Linkedin profile. Stop this pandering BS. You must be next for a promotion under her...:yuk: |
I'm sensing a theme in CX, managers who don't have any experience in the job they're meant to be managing, seems sensible :ugh:

The engineering dept and the real engineers within it, are generally very good and extremely reliable. However as with any large organization, the system occasionally puts admin type wallahs in positions where they should have operational staff.
If those individuals stayed in their office and counted paper clips like they're trained to, then that's fine. However, similar to flight ops, where we had a zoologist in the main position, they occasionally start meddling in operational aspects over which they have no real practical idea, as they've never worked in the areas they are now meddling with. Small wonder they have little respect from their underlings. |
Actually the 'admin' jobs in Engineering are absolutely critical and not understanding that shows lack of understanding of what Engineering do. Sure, changing an oily bit at 2am in the morn is important. But when a critical AD come out, you need to have complete tracibility of each part, or the 'admin' of preparing work packages for C checks. It is such a regulated industry that the 'proper' engineering is pretty much only done by manufacturers. Everyone else is in logistics, admin, or following a manufacturer's FAA/EASA approved procedure to the letter. It isn't as if an engineer can decide to use a different set of bolts based on their experience of what works in the past to hold an engine on, or even a different engine removal procedure to what is laid down
|
So, why was a fleet recently grounded (or stopped)? Was that the "admin" of organizing a check, or the "oily bit" of getting the check done? Genuinely interested.

Freehills
It's official, Freehills is a liberal dip**** who thinks that clerks and "logistics" types are the all important link in the chain.
Just another self aggrandizing low level suck up like the other thousands out there. A waste of time and space..:} |

The girl has drive and ambition, and takes absolutely no BS. She has done 2 masters degrees since her engineering studies, and is extremely switched on. To get where she is in a gweilo run setup is outstanding. |
Flex; what a load of sanctimonious ****e...The previous Dir Eng, CG, probably had spent some time on the hangar floor many moons ago, however I very much doubt he'd held a socket set in his hands in recent memory, and was a perfect effective director. One of the previous incumbents, due to a propensity to large lunches would have had grave difficulty in getting underneath an aircraft, let alone working on it. Are you suggesting he was any less of an administrator because of it. ? The lady in question sounds eminently qualified as a GM ENG and if that's too self aggrandizing or liberal for your misogynist, xenophobic view of the world then perhaps take up a job in Saudi, or the GAFFA? Your views would be welcome there, in fact positively encouraged in the workplace.

Glob !!
I think you are the true liberal and your groupthink mentality is shining through. A true remainer no doubt.. Go EU go.....
Just so I can understand your point here; because "I" would like to have people with more "relevant" experience overseeing the maintenance that is conducted on the AC here, i'm a "misogynist and xenophobe? You forgot to call me a racist & sexist as well. Very nice you're ok with having and administrator with X irrelevant uni degrees overseeing the maintenance on the AC; this with a whopping 19 months of "extensive" experience.... Wow. BTW, CG is "still" Dir Engineering. If you've been here for a bit, you should remember -CX 747 (unserviced) cablegate. more recently. -AB 330 Hydraulicgate (ultra worrying) All overseen by the highly qualified (your words) administrators YOU are a surrogate for. I'll apologize for wanting better; let's all keep dumbing down our expectations for the department that is responsible for keeping the AC airworthy. Exactly like they are dumbing down other departments while we all sit there and say "oh well, what can you do". |
That's why I really like the term racist in this day and age (or any of its variants which are simply 'racist' wearing a tux). I'm kind of stupid sometimes (and have difficulty following the back and forths of some debates) and to me it clearly delineates that the person using the word has just lost the argument and / or any credibility based on actual facts.
