Delta Airlines Pilots to get 30% pay increase

Delta Agrees to 30% Raise for Pilots After Nine-Month Standoff - Bloomberg

Delta Air Lines Inc. would give its pilots a 30 percent raise over four years under an agreement in principle with the aviators’ union, potentially paving the way for a new contract after a nine-month standoff.

Pilots at other airlines are closely watching the deliberations, and aviators at United Continental Holdings Inc. even have a contract provision that calls for pay to be increased if their counterparts at Delta win a better deal.

Yes ok, off to Delta you go then

At least Delta will pay your FICA so that you'll have Medicare available to you when you retire.

DropKnee 4th Oct 2016 21:55

I love people who's solution is to just quit and move on. Never acknowledging the sub par conditions we work under. I suppose it's just easier for you to accept what your offered. Low self esteem?

MENELAUS 4th Oct 2016 22:58

Low self esteem ? Hardly. Pragmatic and realistic ? Totally. We don't work for an organisation that is bound by a) any sense of loyalty b) any moral imperative to behave decently and most importantly c) is not bound to respect any form of leverage nor normalised industrial labour relations (excepting the bases that are mere drops in the ocean) that a first world employer does. Therefore it is asinine to keep comparing us to Delta, United, AA etc. Compare us to SQ, (no expats left save the cargo outfit ) EVA and you have a realistic view. And that is the saddest thing of all. How far this outfit has fallen down the ladder of once great jobs.
So,yes, the answer is if you have ticked all the requirements to be at a US major you wouldn't be posting on here as to how great a deal Delta are getting. You'd be long gone.

Popgun 4th Oct 2016 23:50

You're not in Kansas Anymore...

Well said.

I am constantly amazed by the number of pilots that step out of their western, developed world jobs to Asia and the Middle East who then complain that they are not supported by solid unions and fair industrial relations legislation.

Seriously, it will never be accurate to make a comparison with the likes of AA, DL, UA, BA, LH, NZ or QF!

When you make a decision to leave North America, Western Europe or Australia/New Zealand you are rolling the dice and taking your chances. If you didn't realise that before you went then unfortunately you leapt before you looked (Shiny Jet Syndrome can be a powerful force).

Not that you shouldn't try to improve your conditions...but you have to be realistic about the chances of that when you will always be fighting with one hand tied behind your back when not working in a western democracy.

Sincerely, Good Luck.

A lot of people didn't leave for SJS but because this mob was actually quite a good place to be. Pilots recommended their mates to join this outfit and Cx paid competitive rates to attract and retain Pilots. Imagine where we would be if we didn't fight for better conditions or at least maintain what we have. Highlighting the fact that Delta has had a huge pay increase gives us an incentive to fight for more or we could just bend over and accept the pineapple without a whimper.

DropKnee 5th Oct 2016 01:16

I think CX employees many pineapple eaters.
The crowed who promotes the line that this is Asia or CX will never change etc is a disappointing group. The western world was a real **** pot at one point. But courages individuals and groups stood up and improved their lives. We can do the same with CX.

Funny, missed this bit from the Cathay recruiting site.

If you don't fight, you don't get anything. Stop lowering expectations. The OPs intent is to raise them, I applaud him for that. Just a reminder of what we are worth. A parked jet in HKG is probably a lot more expensive than a parked jet in Atlanta.

So continue the fight boys. Delta just showed you what you are worth. Don't get distracted by management's attempt at lowering your self worth - even if it is echoed by the occasional over-abused, beaten-down long-timer fellow pilot. Trust me, management quietly **** themselves every minute the status quo continues. Your expectations should be high, and the majority of you know it.

I'm proud to share the flight deck with all fellow fighters in this industrial battle. I don't really know if we will win. But I can guarantee you fighting will get you more than not.

So please stop doing management's job for them.

MENELAUS 5th Oct 2016 01:42

Industrial battle. Tee f@cking hee.

DropKnee 5th Oct 2016 05:06

We don't have to overtly fight. After all they are the .00001%. We must obey our masters.
Actually all we need to do is set in our hands. Their inbreed and arrogant self righteous superiority complex selfs will run the operation into to bankruptcy. PanAm the greatest airline of the world eventually mismanaged itself ito history. The assclowns running this place will do the same. In case you have not noticed. Folks are sick of scum bag managed companies.

ACMS 5th Oct 2016 05:57

We can only do our best and try.

Yes it's nice to compare ourselves to Delta or AA but at the end of the day we must be realistic.

There are a lot of Airline Pilots way worse off than we are.

Keep it real.

MENELAUS 5th Oct 2016 06:39

Drop knee. You should get in touch with the CEO's PA and get yourself signed up as his new speech writer. You display similar levels of eloquence.

DropKnee 5th Oct 2016 07:53

Discard the message because the grammar police have discarded your message. How has that worked for England and her colonies that were released from servitude versus defeating the in defetable British Army? Your defeatist attitude and no fighting during tea time has left the empire in a pathetic state. The rewards to the group
Willling to fight. Explains why USAOA has a better deal than the HKAOA. Because Americans laid down the law and decided enough!!

iceman50 5th Oct 2016 08:50

DropKnee what??

Explains why they did not join UA etc as they would not be right nevermind left seat in a widebody in the same time as here at CX!

el commandante 5th Oct 2016 11:12

You girls and guys are talking about different things I get the impression. This was about a 30% increase in salary at Delta.
We will never get 30% increase when people are falling over themselves to join with partly 50% lower salaries (housing) compared to a decade ago. And some wankers still join training to support that.

What we need to fight for is rostering and a fair fleet bidding system. Also first world labour laws.

As ACMS said, keep it real

DropKnee 5th Oct 2016 15:22

Who cares about the seat or the plane? I will answer that for you. Only a egotistical low self worth individual, thats who. At this point in my career, it all about the $$$ and the work rules. Show me the $$$. The type of equipment the airline flies is inconsequential.

Delta's pilot wages and benefits were decimated by the 2005 bankruptcy and they are still playing catchup over a decade later. Lowly freight dogs at FedEx and UPS still make more than the Deltoids and have significantly better work rules.

Most of the pilots at Cathay don't meet the requirements for employment as a pilot at Delta anyway:

General Requirements

At least 23 years of age.

Graduate of a four-year degree program from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Dept. of Education recognized accrediting organization.

Degrees obtained from a non-U.S. institution must be evaluated for equivalency to U.S. degrees by a member organization of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Current passport or other travel documents enabling the bearer to freely exit and re-enter the U.S. (multiple reentry status) and be legally eligible to work in the U.S. (possess proper working documents).
Delta - Pilot Basics

I'm guessing that CX has plenty of 'North Americans' but not too many Americans working as pilots at the present time. ;)
