A.O.A

I see that the DFO has got the Chairman that she was manoeuvring for. I am hoping that this new Chairman will not roll over , have his tummy tickled and agree to everything she wants. But I suspect that we are about to be sold a pup by this much weaker leader.

goathead 30th Aug 2016 09:22

This Chairman rolled over years ago when he came back 2man using an operations dispensation to do so because he thought that was ok. End of story , enough said .
Is he quitting training? , bet ya contract he aint . Say no more.
By the looks ? we have a strong enough GC who will tell him to pull his ✝ head in .

MENELAUS 30th Aug 2016 09:57

Freddy Mercury has left the building; sadly.

Hugo Peroni the IV 30th Aug 2016 10:27

In the UK, conservative rule is periodically replaced by the Labour Party because we forget how bad the Labour Party are. The period of regret lasts until the next election.

The A.O.A will look back on today and think.......what the f*** were we thinking by putting A.T.'s soft touch candidate in post! Prepare to be f***ed over as much as the NC were prepared to let us be f***ed over before Freddie M got in the way.

BusyB 30th Aug 2016 10:59

The AOA has changed its leader so now CX has to do the same with both AT and I otherwise nothing will change in the relationship between CX and its pilots.

Farman Biplane 30th Aug 2016 11:09

Good luck everybody

Well done yes voters.

So is the new AOA lanyard going to be yellow with white writing?

Thanks Freddie (love that), outstanding effort!

Bet the DFO is drinking some Cristal tonight :D

quadspeed 30th Aug 2016 21:01

"Revolution devours its children." So it was, so it will be.

Representation means Representation.

The chairman knew that the vote could not pass representation, and received 23 stab wounds as a result.

May the next chairman fare better with his NC.

Some How I'm Tired 30th Aug 2016 23:37

Who cares about the chairman? He doesn't have veto powers or a nuclear button.

It's the GC that matters. Everything goes to vote. There are some very strong and well experienced people that have just been voted in. There will be no more recommending disgraceful TA's.

AT should be more worried about the new GC rather than celebrating about their spokesman.

RAT Management 31st Aug 2016 00:36

I can see the future: 2 years of CC and TB will be traded in for essentially a raise in HKPA with back pay.

We have gone full circle chasing our tails and ended up where we started. losing sight of the goal at the same time.

What a waste of time and effort.

Good luck everyone, I can hear the fat lady singing! :ugh: :ugh: :ugh::uhoh::uhoh::uhoh:

Great, we have a Chairman who by sitting on the completely biased FRSMC has in fact legitimized the Company's industrial stances. A Chairman who is happy to engage the company with Company funded "research" on 3-man trials.

And a Chairman who as a Management Pilot will be busy "training" his cheaper replacements while trying to find the time to completely undermine years of sacrifice the pilot body has made in terms of career earnings and upgrades to sell us out for a cheap, half backed insult of an RP and HKPA agreement.

Furthermore, through all of this, we have discovered cancers like D. McNugget and others (have you seen the names who liked his FB posts) who, even though they were more than happy to join under the conditions offered, are now complaining about how unjust it all is. How they are entitled to more, and are happy to take it from their colleagues. Ummm... exactly what has changed since you joined? What experience do you bring to the table? Exactly how many of you are leaving? Or who would even want you? You agreed to the conditions offered and now you are complaining about how unjust it is? Give me a break. Anyone thinking these delusional ideas should be expelled from the union and left to fend for themselves.

The principal role of the Chairman (of the HKAOA) is to manage and to provide leadership to the 'Board of Directors' (HKAOA GC and by extension, us the membership).

The Chairman is accountable to the GC and by extension, us the membership. He thus acts as liaison between us the membership ( with our needs focused through the LENS that is our GC) and the management of the Company.

Having read the manifestly confident manifesto of the new Chairman, I assume he understands his responsibilities exceedingly well, as they pertain to our new GC and by extension, us the entire membership.

All that is now required of us the HKAOA membership is for enough good ladies and gentlemen TO NOT SIT AROUND AND DO NOTHING, so as to prevent the triumph of evil.

Call the process what you will but may I suggest we become the FUNCTIONAL DEMOCRACY that we are blessed to already have at our disposal.

The time is now, we have the structure in place in our HKAOA. Let's intelligently participate.

mr did 31st Aug 2016 06:21

Calm down you lot.

DS is the Chairman but has only one vote in committee, the remaining group voted in to support him is one of the strongest and most experienced we have had in years. I, for one, am willing to cut him some slack and see how this plays out.

For the record, I voted for Rod.

Alright, I'll give him a week to quit his management position.

A functional democracy

We have all the ingredients for logical progress to now occur, if and only if we participate in and insist upon our association functioning democratically, as designed. That this may not have happened in some circumstances recently, should be cause for inquiry and perhaps some rule changes.

If the membership engage with their new GC intelligently and they the GC work well together and with the new Chairman and Rod as IPC, then it appears to be a much clearer picture going forward (by virtue of the time we've had to reflect upon the TA debacle and the many questions that now need answering OPENLY), than where we recently found ourselves, precariously about to usher in changes and clauses we knew little about and which had been cobbled together behind closed doors.

Regardless of who our chairman is for the next 2 years, let's all participate intelligently and steer our GC and by extension him as chairman, in the most logical, responsible and forthright direction.

Personally, I admire these guys and girls for being prepared to act on our behalf, so let's show them good direction.

Pain 31st Aug 2016 14:52

Yes. Being a training captain does move DS closer to management. But the same is true for being a line captain. The captain is the company's face. Welcome to the real world. True hard then none of us would accept upgrades.

Expecting DS to resign his training position and take a voluntary pay cut is ludicrous. If DS can manage his time and accomplish both, great. If not, then it must be one or the other.

cxorcist 31st Aug 2016 15:01

I'm more interested in how DS will be Chairman of both HKAOA and HKALPA simultaneously. We have an industrial union and a "non-industrial" tech and safety organization both headed by the same guy. Huh?

You're either justifying your own position as a trainer yourself, or you're D.S. or a buddy of his. A trainer is a management position FULL STOP. A line captain is not. That is black and white. There are no shades of grey in that. As was pointed out on the AOA forums:

Ops D, Section 1, 9.1.B.:
[Members of Check and Training are] discretionary appointments [that] are executive posts within the overall Management structure of the Company.

Pain, you're really stretching to think that line captains, as "the company's face" are therefore "closer to management." Using that bizarre logic, a BC cabin crew or a check-in girl at the airport must be senior management.

Exactly how is expecting DS to resign from management to run the AOA "ludicrous?" No one forced him to volunteer for the position. It is a huge conflict of interest. He is now leading the industrial body that is fighting for protections against management, the very thing that he is! And if it were so "ludicrous" why did our previous Chairman Paul W. do EXACTLY THAT and resign from training?

Pain 1st Sep 2016 02:31

I believe Paul resigned after realizing he did not have the time to dedicate to both. If DS can manage both good for him.

It is not reasonable to expect anyone to volunteer for a pay cut in order to be the chairman.

NoAndThen 1st Sep 2016 03:14

It is not reasonable to expect anyone to volunteer for a pay cut in order to be the chairman.
What are you not understanding? He volunteered for this position! No one expected or forced him to become chairman. If he is not willing to make the sacrifice then don't volunteer in the first place!

It sets a bad precedent, it's a horrible conflict of interest, and it already shows the membership what type of chairman he is going to be. It's ridiculous we are even having this debate.
