Incident: Dragonair A321 at Hong Kong on July 5, "Breathing Fire"

A Dragonair Airbus A321-200, registration B-HTF performing flight KA-212 from Hong Kong (China) to Phuket (Thailand), was climbing out of Hong Kong's runway 07L when the crew upon contacting departure declared PAN reporting the left engine was "on fire". The crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet but then decided to climb the aircraft to 7000 feet and enter a hold to burn off fuel before positioning for the landing back on Hong Kong's runway 07L about 40 minutes after departure.

A replacement A321-200 registration B-HTD reached Phuket with a delay of 4 hours.

The airline reported there was no engine fire. The engine's EGT had been higher than normal prompting the crew to return to Hong Kong.

Luckily not in China! Would have resulted in a few demerit points 😉

And the impressive flames out the back weren't really there. Ok, true that isn't an engine fire, but joe public won't know that... Wonder when they are going to replace some of these buckets of bolts. Our new for old 330 replacement program should be over soon, maybe we can find some older 320s too! Even better, we might find some older 321s!

Jokes aside, surely it wont take too many public examples of these old jets falling apart before someone starts to look at replacing them surely? It seems to be the only time we do something is when we are shamed into doing it unfortunately. 'shark fin banning, airframe replacement, but at least they will look smashing in their new paint jobs!!!

We do need a freshen up, true, but for a paint job, and a crap one at that to be 10 years in the making, wohooo! Not to mention we get red ties! Do cx get green ones?!

Company is already patting crew on the back for a job well done, good work!
