To be honest, the standard miss is far to complicated for me. This looks much betterer....

A 'sporty' interpretation if ever there was one......:hmm:

Will IB Fayed 28th Jun 2016 06:27

Would have given the following aircraft a bit of a fright too!

Oasis 28th Jun 2016 06:41

Children of the magenta line....

TurningFinalRWY36 28th Jun 2016 07:36

They didn't even follow the magenta line!

act700 28th Jun 2016 07:45

thems no children of the magental line...children of the magenta line FOLLOW the effin line!!

Oasis 28th Jun 2016 08:51

i'm thinking their waypoint didn't sequence and the nav turned them back around to the final waypoint...

Captain Dart 28th Jun 2016 10:00

I'm thinking neurons in their brains did not sequence.

BuzzBox 28th Jun 2016 13:14

Reminds me of the time when there were some nasty-looking Cbs sitting off the end of 25L one morning. Several departing aircraft, including one from a HK-based airline (call-sign starting with 'B'), asked the tower for an immediate LEFT turn after take-off due weather. Surprisingly, the tower controller declined their requests!

LapSap 28th Jun 2016 14:02

Listening to the archived audio on ATCLive, it's a bit surprising the Final Director didn't see the divergence and say something. Instead he flick passed it to Departures after the go around commenced. By the time they changed freq and called, it was all over, the aircraft had almost completed the turn.
No save by ATC this time.

oriental flyer 28th Jun 2016 14:08

They were so very lucky in this case

anotherbusdriver 28th Jun 2016 14:41

That's a bit mean Buzz, I'm sure the intent was an immediate radar turn when available - as opposed to the full 7 nm as required by the SID. Everyone knows the radar minimums are much better than the SID departure track.

Pucka 28th Jun 2016 14:46

…and will there be any ramification..? the silence will be overwhelming and somewhat deafening. So there we go..welcome to this new non coherent aviation regime..where the prescribed Go Around, SID and STARs are now unto our mainland chinese( and thank you, small m and s intentional),..a choice. So..next missed approach..seen the deity, better take a look at the IFC..shave the gap over Saikung..lets make this a Hobson's choice and screw the rest of the poor buggers behind or ahead on the magenta line…time to pull the pin...

Average Fool 28th Jun 2016 14:51

A wise maneuver really. If you're planning on overflying the highest terrain on Lantau, it's prudent to have altitude.

Well done by the crew and good monitoring by the FO.

Now, where's that broom.

bm330 28th Jun 2016 21:07

Please tell the CAD met these jokers on the bridge and removed two licences. Not especially concerned about two idiots killing themselves but a plane full of passengers and then anyone that was even close to the airport is way too much to overlook.

BuzzBox 28th Jun 2016 21:48

I'm sure the intent was an immediate radar turn when available - as opposed to the full 7 nm as required by the SID.
That's certainly not what they asked for and the weather was sitting 3-4nm off the end of the runway. Draw your own conclusions, but I'd suggest a left turn at 2nm would not be good for one's health.

Flying Clog 28th Jun 2016 23:01

Well, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

In all seriousness, this is completely inexcusable, and an indicator of the race to the bottom.

But the travelling public morons, in China, in Hong Kong, and eventually worldwide, want cheap tickets. This is what you get.

And CX, KA and all the big players aren't far behind.

Well done
