New shark fin petition targets CX!

Well, it was just a matter of time. Someone called Jess has set up a petition to get CX to stop shipping shark fin:-

Cathay Pacific: Stop carrying shark fin cargo NOW | SupportHK

We understand a protest will be next.

Why are these people so angry? Because the whole "sustainable" sharks fin issue stinks, with details of murky deals emerging between CX and Fiji Airways to suck the Pacific Ocean dry of sharks, thus killing off global biodiversity in the process.

The only explanation for management's stubbornness must be that someone on the CX board has close links to the shark fin trade, someone's getting rich up there and can't let go.

As always, any photos of shark fin in the hold or on the tarmac are greatly anticipated and welcomed at: [email protected] Hot local routes in Asia especially. Total confidentiality assured.

And if anyone thinks money was "lost" on fuel hedging, just read the above paragraph from Sharky. Just replace "shark fin trade" with Oil Company and you get the picture. Swire has its fingers in more pies than Kiplin.

Because the whole "sustainable" sharks fin issue stinks,
People understand 'sustainable shark fin' wrong.

Sustainable, as used by CX, applies to profits and bonuses, not the sharks.
Makes sense now?

There'll be more shark fin protests like this to come!

This protest happened at Hong Kong airport yesterday.

So the next logical step will be to hold a Global Day of Action where Cathay Pacific counters all around the world are targeted on a single day. The dive community and marine conservation groups will support in their droves.

That sector will also boycott CX for tourism trips.

The only positive thing this company has done in a very long time!

Might be a good opportunity for the CEOs of both companies to come out and denounce the disgraceful trade in shark genocide. "When the buying stops the killing and the air freight profiteering does too?" I didn't think so. Wont be holding my breath. How about donating the income from shark fins for the last 12 months to an organization fighting the illegal trade, or even Sea Shepard perhaps? I will get my hat...

Once again...CX 'leading' the way...
