Emirates DEC 777

Just as **** at CX, but for those on local terms you get a bigger house!

Heat & dust vs pollution
Europe near by but probably as useless as trying to commute in CX.

And future bases just like in CX ; )

KA guys might like to see less of China?

joblow 3rd Apr 2016 16:22

when major airlines start offering direct entry commands it's a very good indication of the shortage of experienced pilots worldwide .
I guess a lot of the American crews who were furloughed have or will shortly be returning to the U.S. hence the shortage .
The airline managements worldwide have successfully destroyed a once very proud profession , the upcoming pilot shortages will soon bite them in the ass. They will not be able to get enough crews to cover expansions and the lack of flight deck experience will result in a lot more incidents or accidents .

As for EK the salary ain't that good , it's as hot as hell in summer and there is lots of dust . Pass .

A couple of guys left KA to join EK a few yrs ago.
The salaries don't compete. EK Skipper basic, 42000 Dhs = HK$88000. Add on 15% tax = HK$100000. An F/Os salary here.
Enough said.

EK will be hoping for lower paid HKA, HKE guys they won't attract experienced CX/KA guys, even if
swopping the pollution might appeal.
Not so fast.. EK is a no brainer for anyone at CX/KA who is not on expat terms.

HK$100K-40K-60K rent vs HK$88000+provided accommodation is an easy choice.

Until you see their rosters....

777300ER 5th Apr 2016 10:35

The 777 roster at EK is no worse than CX. Also add a better standard of layover hotels, better profit sharing scheme, and a 15% lower cost of living index to the equation. Just stay away from the A330.

muti 5th Apr 2016 11:44

It's a "spoof" just to divert attention from all the media attention!

When I was in the Middle East two of my crew hotels blew up. Just sayin- can happen anywhere these days I know but you sure are in the heart of it in that godforsaken place.

The arabs are very recent slave traders and this is quite apparent in their management styles with a particular deliciousness for Westerners. And you'll be delighted when young Mohammed arrives in a Ferrari to take out your teen daughter with his own culturally supported fantasies of slavery!

Clear for take off inshallah.

Clear to land inshallah.

ECAM actions complete inshallah.

Not sure where/when you flew but you are pretty far off the mark with regard to EK and Dubai. It's no different than HK. There is good and bad, and the secret to remaining sane is to embrace the positives.

Gnadenburg 6th Apr 2016 04:00

So what's the attrition rate of EK captains versus CX captains? That would be telling.

I shouldn't be discouraging folks leaving here though do have a long think about the Middle East. It could be the worst decision of your life.

Gnadenburg 6th Apr 2016 04:19

KA guys might like to see less of China?
To see more of the Middle East on half the pay? Are you guys recruiters because you are polishing a pretty big turd?

Dan Winterland 6th Apr 2016 04:54

So what's the attrition rate of EK captains versus CX captains? That would be telling.
And why they have a requirement for DECs.

Anotherday 6th Apr 2016 06:15

So you all bitch about CX/KA and getting out and then when an option arrives that doesn't involve starting at the bottom of seniority, well, you bitch about that instead.

Reminds me of the Perth based DEC 330 jobs at Jetstar a few years back. The CX/KA whiners spent so much time bitching about the pay/roster/tax/apparent-sh*thole-that-is-Perth etc etc etc that all positions were snapped up by guys from the sandpit.

And the very next week everyone "stuck" in Hong Kong went back to bitching about how you couldn't get out. No job options elsewhere.

Wtf.

Trafalgar 6th Apr 2016 07:39

It's not about the CX captains leaving for the sandpit. It's about the FO's who can see a command in 4 years, proper housing, and the chance to put away a chunk of the tax free salary. I'm not saying EK is a great place, but compared to a new FO looking at another 10-12 years to command, getting one in 3-4 years at EK might look attractive. If their expansion plans come to fruition, that estimate isn't far off.

Trafalgar 6th Apr 2016 10:20

It doesn't matter what the thread 'title' is. It's a thread about EK...and ultimately it will probably suit some of our FO's more as a place of employment than our Captains (well...at least for now!). Career earnings are higher, you get a proper housing allowance, and you might actually be able to save for retirement and have a family. :ok:

broadband circuit 7th Apr 2016 01:00

What about some of our 50+ y.o. captains still on COS'99 who are set to retire at 55? Certainly a viable option for them.

fly4more 7th Apr 2016 05:49

So you sure these 55 yr olds with 10000 hours command will be motivated enough to go through the EK assessment machine? Even filling out the online form with all past hours, previous employers etc
Then , presuming they get invited to Dubai, aptitude tests, the group interviews, the numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, competency based interviewing. The CRM simulator and character interview . Oh , and the written quiz?
At 55 i know what id rather be doing ....

Threethirty 7th Apr 2016 05:50

I know a lot of ex BA captains who did just that.,,

Pilot_Recruit 7th Apr 2016 16:29

Better the devil you know fellas. There is no grass over here. Don't forget that when weighing up the options.
