The firings have started
The new GMF has already started sacking people. "Viv" apparently left because a new project, included within the fleet office(s), will include terminations. This is really what the new sickness policy is about. If anyone thinks that the fleet offices/Chief Pilots are on our side, just you wait and see. Does anyone remember the 1994 F/A strike or the 1999/2000 pilot uprising?
We are now at war again and history has a way of repeating itself. Even though they are short of crew, they will try and scare everyone to work. Anyone that has a chance to get out should give it serious thought. I really hate to say this but I do not know if we can trust the AOA. I do not need to repeat what happened to our colleagues the last time and what they had to do to be heard. The AOA has caved a few times actually and just when we think we have the other guy on the ropes, we get sucker punched and down like the Titanic deep into Davie Jones locker we sink. It's sad that we cannot just fix the issues and move on to be the great airline we once were. Reverting back to old colonial ways of managing will fail and sadly so may the once beloved airline. I wish things were different but they are not. Read the story about swire shipping and research scorched earth policies. |
Perhaps one difference today vs. a few years ago. It appears today that just about everyone despises working here, with the possible exception of the newly hired SO or the crusty Captain that remembers the good old days decades ago (and perhaps has nothing better to do). While that may not generate unity for the reasons we'd all like, I think it generates some form of unity anyway.

Another big difference between today and '99/'00/'01 is that in those days there were excess pilots world wide. Not so much today.
Rumours floating about a flow of resignations in March, and we're only half way through the month. |

Go ahead... For most, termination would be a blessing as they will land on their feet elsewhere with a better company, while putting three months pay in their pocket for the transition. For those who stay... the more who resign, retire, or are sacked just make contract compliance and the training ban that much more effective.

I think the resignations will outpace the firings once drafting of unwilling 777 and 747 CNs and FOs begins, off to the Airbus (and not quite from the bottom of the list - and to the A330 for a long, long while - until they figure out it's cheaper to move those most junior new Airbus guys to fly just the A350).
I bet that 10-40 more years of that with no way out just won't appeal to very many. |

Notice how I wrote, "For most..." For whom do you "preach"? Others? Subtlety is overrated. Say what you mean and mean what you say, or don't say it at all. The reality is that while being sacked would set most back financially, at least temporarily; it would also start a new career elsewhere. Chances are good that those employers would be far superior to our "masters" at CX. Very few companies still in business can get away with treating their employees with the contempt and disdain that CX does. CX gets away with it because of the proverbial "golden handcuffs" and the "refugee status" of so many of its pilots. |

Oh, for pete's sake you lot...enough! They can fire who they want. They do all the time. If you are doing your job, and calling in sick legitimately, they have NOTHING to hold against you. I will call in sick as and when it's appropriate. I couldn't care less what 'program' CX implements. Stop bickering...PLEASE!!:ugh:

Be that as it may, just because I don't subscribe to the gospel according to cxorcist (or Curtain rod for that matter) doesn't make me a prig. However, if we're going to debate the point of who's the more sanctimonious of us we actually need to debate. So far, all you've done is say that I'm just as much of a prig as you but you haven't offered any counter to my points and questions in my previous post. Rarely post on these forums, but always liked what STP writes. Also agree with his posts on this thread. Cxorcist & c-rod your rebuttal to his comments appear, in my opinion, to be little more than puerile nonsense. Please explain just how you know that being fired would be a good thing? Not sure it worked out like that for the 49ers. Perhaps you know something I don't! Please enlighten us all if you do.
