Hong Kong Medical

Putting my app in with Cathay Pacific, but worried about my color vision deficiency. I did the Eva Air interview, was offered the job, but failed the medical because of the color vision test. I haven't failed any of my FAA Class 1 medicals. I don't want to waste my time if I can't pas the medical or get a waiver for it. Other than this, I'm healthier than most of the pilots.

Not mentally. Or you wouldn't be applying to this place.

If you are that worried, the closest HKCAD medical examiner to you would be Dr Adams in Vancouver, Phone +604 270 1370. He can do a class 1 HKG medical. Give him a call and see what you can sort out.

There maybe better options for at home, it a long way to come to join a LCC.

This is about the only increase in your package you will see in your career.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm flying MD-11s for a cargo company in the US for really low pay and I want to get out of the US, I don't have my 4 year degree. No PIC (command) time and under 3000, with only 150 hours so far in the MD-11.

With these credentials you would be nuts joining CX...

some unusual types of colour blindness are permissible in one jurisdiction but not in another.

post above will determine answer

If I was a betting man I'd guess you'll be fine. FAA/EASA are generally progressive and are pragmatic and sensible enough to deal with such matters and my guess is HKCAD would be of the same ilk. Taiwan is likely to resemble China more, so therefore intransigent, unpractical, no common sense and therefore more likely to find even the most irrelevant non-compliance unacceptable.
