CX723 27th Jan

Can anyone share the specific reason why this flight was delayed this morning?

Shot Nancy 27th Jan 2016 11:53

Yep.
There were not enough feathers in the intake duct to feather the propeller.

hkgmjq 27th Jan 2016 12:16

I think one of the cross beams went out askew on the treadle.

Wombaticus 27th Jan 2016 12:19

Shot Nancy,

From your reply it sounds like a technical problem, if there is an engineer out there who can explain what this means that would be appreciated.

Milking a mouse 27th Jan 2016 22:35

Wombaticus,

The blades require a certain amount of torsional flectional flutter to be considered "in tolerance". That is, meet the design specifications that are set by the manufacturer and demonstrated to the regulator during certification. Should they be found to be deficient, they must be refeathered and that takes time, hence the OP's delay.

Freehills 28th Jan 2016 02:06

Correct. During certification of the engine, there is the famous "bird test", to make sure that there are enough feathers to allow for the torsional flectional flutter

Philistines

Clearly it was the Thronomeister.

MENELAUS 28th Jan 2016 06:47

I'm sorry. The foregoing is all bollocks. I have it on good authority that the F/O's company provided iPad had to be de-gaussed.

All the above responses are false. The culprit was the fetzer valve. It was fixed with 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads. And about 10 quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, make that Quaker-State......

Dammit, MrDid beat me to it!!!:mad:

What did the lady at the gate tell you?

MELDreamer 29th Jan 2016 08:55

The OP is 'tiredofcx' yet clearly continues to fly with CX!

According to FlightStats.com:

DEPARTURE
Scheduled Departure:
08:50 - Wed 27-Jan-2016
Actual Departure:
09:31 - Wed 27-Jan-2016
Airborne (from FR24):
10:03 - Wed 27-Jan-2016

ARRIVAL
Scheduled Arrival:
12:45 - Wed 27-Jan-2016
Landed (from FR24):
13:40 - Wed 27-Jan-2016
Actual Arrival:
13:47 - Wed 27-Jan-2016

I wouldn't reckon this 41 minute departure delay is worth making a fuss over. Irritating (when I'm on board and seated I want to go too) but hardly tragic. Life ain't perfect.
The delay to takeoff (long taxy + busy time of day) would account for the extra delay to the arrival.

MEL
The OP didn't imply the delay was "tragic" or otherwise, he asked a simple question but god forbid anyone could give a straight answer on here, just unleashed open house for all the resident CX "comedians". I am sure every single one of the replies had the OP in stitches just like it did me ...mm.

He MAY have had a perfectly simple and valid reason for wanting to know for personal reasons.

MENELAUS 29th Jan 2016 13:05

Or just a nosey bastard

Will fly for Cash 30th Jan 2016 04:00

CX comedians. Now there's an oxymoron!

broadband circuit 30th Jan 2016 09:15

I would've said "CX comedians. Now that's a joke!"

yea, yea, I know. Like the guys said. Hat, coat.....
