Subjects to choose for IB?

Hi guys!

In a few months I need to choose my IB subjects. I really want to become a pilot but I don't know what subjects to take. For IB you need to choose 3 higher level subjects and 3 standard level subjects. Preferably, I do not want to take higher level maths. So far my the subjects I am thinking about taking are as follows:
HL Physics
HL Economics
HL Geography
SL English Lang/Lit
SL Spanish
SL Mathematics

Thanks In Advance!

Math and physics.

Econ to be more familiar with all the ways the airline is trying to screw you.

Geography so you know where the hell you are going and what's being passed.

Spanish for those lonely 72 hour layovers in Guadalajara. It may get you laid or save you from being sold into slavery by the drug cartels.

High level math and physics have absolutely nothing to do with flying unless you want the option to design airfoils. As a pilot, too much math and physics is a waste of brain cells, but they sure look good on a transcript of you get good marks.

Make sense?

Those subject choices are fine.
:ok:

Make sure you get into Oxford University in England( not - for some reason, Cambridge). Study anything you want - even Zoology - and join the Swire Group. If you do really well with Coke bottles, shipping or property, you may get noticed by the bright sparks running the Swires Flying Circus that used to be known as Cathay Pacific Airways.
After some time studying mainly legal documents and getting to know some of the CAD Flight Ops 'Rubber Stampers" - sorry, Inspectors( you will have an entertainment budget to keep these folks onside), you may be promoted according to the Peter Principal. This Promotes you just a little too far and you will find yourself isolated, alone and looking rather silly. You will take drinks from the chalice - excuse me - mini bar in your 9th Floor suite of offices and wonder how on earth you ever achieved the title of DFO. You don't know anything about flying really and never particularly wanted to have much to do with planes or especially, those who flew them.
How did this happen?
Indeed.
Anyway - good luck with your studies - you never know where they may take you.

Very Average Advice

Airvib,

Check with an aviation school and see what the prerequisites are. I am pretty sure that you need Math and Physics. You will also need those courses to do well on the employment interviews at most airlines.

Take the required classes and others that interest you. Much easier to study something you like.

Learning to learn is a big part of education as well as learning the subjects.

I just finished my IB Diploma this year. I did:

-HL Maths
-HL Physics
-HL Geography
-SL Chinese A
-SL English LangLit
-SL Environmental systems and societies

HL Maths and Physics can be rather difficult at times, so be prepared to spend more time on HL Physics if you're really going to do it. However, you do not need Maths and Physics to this level to become a pilot. SL Maths and Physics would be more than enough. In fact, if you did well for IGCSE Maths and Science, you need not worry at all. Good luck!

Concentrate specifically on your three times tables, and stretch yourself to include the four times, and think how you might add 10 to the answer. That is the full extent of the maths and physics you will use, but unfortunately, these guys are right, you need it.

Genuinely, good luck, you can use flying as a stepping stone to a career in something worthwhile!

Most of the new joiners at CX (aka spikey hair brigade) also appear to have completed

- HL Hair geling
- HL Complaining about HKPA
- HL Self entitlement

but all seem to have failed

- SL Knowing the COS before joining..

Good luck mate! :ok:

I'm confused, the majority of the CX pilots I see are bald... ;)
