Not sure where you saw that "fine print" but the plan is for the third runway to be completed in 2021, then the centre runway (existing north) would be closed for about 2 years to allow tunneling, reprofiling and wrap around taxiways to be built around the ends.
All 3 runways open by 2023 supposedly.

New Runway does not allow two missed approaches the same time
 

Good to see the third runway in HKIA. The North circuit to the final "new" 07L will be an RNP1 approach while another final remains on the 07R. The departure will be 07C. Longing to read a blood report on two missed approaches both on the base legs of 07L and 07R. I would have more entertainment if there was a long haul departure at VR when the aforesaid flights carrying out missed approaches. A little bit of weather will enhance the entertainment.

Missed approaches on the "new" 25R and 25L will also be interesting with a heavy departure too.

Clearly you don't understand the design and operational requirements for simultaneous parallel runway ops.
You don't think it has got to this stage without all the required procedure design analysis and aeronautical safety assessment being done by reputable international PANS-OPS and PANS-ATM qualified persons?

Of course the approaches, missed approaches and departures will be independent under the normal operating mode.

Take a look at the existing and planned taxiway infrastructure and have another think about what is involved here before making such a simplistic comment.
Obviously it's not a case of simply 'upgrading' the Centre runway.
That's the nice layman term used in the media obviously.
Think about the reclamation work that needs to take place virtually up to the flight strip edge on the north side and at both ends (affecting the localiser aerials) to accommodate the wrap-around taxiways and then the multiple taxiway connections to be made on the North side of the runway.
You happy to keep operating over and beside 50 metre Deep Cememt Mixing rigs and cranes and portions of the runway with tunnels being bored just beneath the runway surface?
Thought not.
Two years is probably optimistic to be frank.

The whole discussion about whether the 2-runway capacity should be 68, 78, 88 or whatever, is such a red herring.
Clearly the demand will exceed what 2 runways at even the most optimised airports in the world can accommodate by 2023.
Should HK wait til the 2 runways are running at Heathrow rates and THEN decide to build another runway? Look at the bind they are in now.
Do that and Silberfuchs comment will be true.

The airport authority or whoever seems to have got it right with the new terminal presently under construction, I read in the paper that they have cut back the plans for the terminal associated with the 3rd runway, as someone else suggested why not just copy heathrow terminal 5 and add 5B, 5C? basically copies of the terminal they are building now. It would make getting from one runway to the other a hell of a lot easier, as if we don't taxi enough already with 2 runways.

You think the AAHK shopping centre managers care about making it easier to get from one runway to another? The aeroplanes are just a means of transporting shoppers to/from their their retail lessees.
Retailers and service providers have pretty much told AA they are not interested in the 'toaster rack' style of terminals as it dilutes their exposure to the expected 100 mill pax.
So guess what, the third runway terminal is just going to follow the current Y shaped ends of T1, with all the usual pushback conflicts and long taxi distances.

I'm interested in the approach to the new 25R. Does anyone have info on that? Is it an RNAV? Steep over Lion Rock? Or curving right after the high ground?

All very well but what are they going to do with them when they get them into the air?! They don't need another runway, they need the infrastructure to use the ones they've got properly -use the budget to bring the ageing ATC systems into the modern world instead, give everyone a city break in Swanwick to see how it can be done but most of all sort out the great wall of China :ugh:. Until these are resolved, doesn't matter how many runways you have.
