So the mangers thought first up a wholesale disregard of pay review was acceptable.

That followed by a blanket 4% for all other staff with no request for productivity increases. Just an increase to reflect the costs of living.

We agree to wait for an " acceptable response". It arrives in the form of 0% and we'll talk next year.

We're now getting towards 2/3 of the way through that year, and there is ABSOLUTELY NO SIGN AT ALL that the mangers of this dog flea outfit are in any way being reasonable in the Good Faith negotiations. None at all.

Our collective representative keeps telling us that things are generally progressing but to be ready for when it finally and irrevocably turns sour.

For anyone who has been in this circus for longer than about 2 years, you, we, all know that this company does not want to talk with us in any real way, and will, not even entertain the idea of a straight up pay rise.

CC should be officially installed without delay, and all of us be sure to ONLY do what our contract says, nothing more or less.

No sweetheart deals with CC because it suits you today.

The contenders have pulled on the gloves and are being lead to the ring.

The bout announcer is about to speak into his microphone and the fighters face off.

Ladies and gents, round 1 is moments away.

While I agree with you Monster, I still have such a hard time understanding anyone who is not in full contract compliance already. I've been following my contract strictly for years now. I learned it from Cathay.

The AOA is so late to this party its not even funny. You can't help but wonder how much further along we would be without the AOA sort of "holding us back". The GFBA has done nothing but provide for more delaying tactics for the company.

Been in CC myself for 14+ years.

CX taught me well through example.

Just hope others can stomach the fight.

I find it remarkable that on pprune there are so many on CC , but in 10 years in Cathay I hardly ever met one on the line.

Exactly once in 10 years a captain refused to go into discretion. Once.

I am looking forward to CC just to see the true colours...

Cathay management would be easier to go toe to toe with than some of those ISM's .

Not that I have ever experienced anything of the sort with any ISM so perhaps it's a personality issue , but then I don't expect a crew meal whilst the CC are doing a passenger service .They work very hard during the service. There again there are some crews that are much better than others .

a Simple solution to the ISM problem should you encounter it , is to turn it back on them

" Look I understand that you are all busy, but every good ISM that I have ever flown with with has always been able to manage the flight deck as well as the passengers even if it means the ISM having to make a cup of tea or bring in a meal "

Whilst I agree wholeheartedly with your comments unfortunately there are just too many pilots who will go for the sweetheart deals or do something because it works for them, so until we as a cohesive unit are prepared to re educate the strays, things won't improve much

No point in CC, majority of pilots are doing that already.

We should do something that hits them hard.

I.e. Everyone takes flight plan fuel for the next 2 months or start taking flaps 30nm from touchdown.

Our hands are tied until the GFBA dies a predicted and slow, agonizing death, lest we give the company another chance to make us look like the bad guys.

But I agree with Sqwak. Why anybody would not be in CC already at a personal level is a mystery.

Not everyone is in CC because as selfish as it may be, the short term gain of a string or days off to commute home to see family is irresistible. Or perhaps the financial gain from helping the company and going well into overtime far outweighs any pay rise possible in your wildest dreams. Almost everyone I fly with is impressively into overtime these days except for me. Obviously I must be on the "don't bother trying list" over at kitty city.

Contract Compliance or Strike?
 
Some say a strike is illegal in Hong Kong yet Article 27 of the Basic Law states that to strike is a legal right if part of a trade union.

So, has the AOA joined or linked itself with the Trade Unions of Hong Kong as the DPA have?

If so...why can't we strike?

You can strike but you won't because:-
1. Most people are thousands of miles from home and feel very vulnerable to becoming numbers 50-150 on the 'you've just lost your career' list.
2. The AOA is toothless and will not/cannot back you up.
3. CX have done a brilliant job of painting us as greedy, lazy, overpaid button pushers ( until something goes wrong where they reluctantly say something nice).
4. Labour laws in Hong Kong favour the 'Mill Owners'.
5. Hundreds of people are waiting in the wings to take your job ( see No 3).

Just do your own CC - don't even think about the 'S' word - it's not going to happen.

As Arfur says, you can strike. And he's right with his point 4, the mill owners can sack for breach of contract. The 49ers case proved that, Yes, CX was told they should have done this or that but at the end of the day the Judge said they could sack.

I think the AOA is a member of the confederation of trade unions of Hong Kong.
