Malaysian still flying over war zones

What is it with Malaysian's management ?
. Incredibly after everything that has happened they have traded flying over Ukraine for flying over Syria instead . Their continued excuse is that overflight hasn't been banned by ICAO ( who have really dropped the ball on this issue )

When are they ever going to learn ?

Are you f#ck/n& serious?

CX has been flying over Afghanistan for years. And through North Korean airspace when the winds are right.

And next time you're asked by London if you have a morning curfew, ask the skipper how those lovely slots came to be.

Ok flying over Syria not the smartest move but CX still happy to fly over Iraq. No chance of anything going wrong there? ISIS looted a significant number of Military bases. Anybody know what they have? No so would you be happy to overfly. Still it's only cargo

I feel more relaxed over Afghanistan than Northern Pakistan before we hit the border.

It's pilot time folks..refuse to fly over any HOT zone!! Enough said..company whiplash??..then I'm sure the press would have a field day!!

CX management can read newspapers like the rest of us, though they probably read the financial pages instead of the World News section. Regions of war with SAM capability, don't fly there. Simple.

I'll get me coat....

Many passenger airlines are still using the routes over Iraq, too! Not that it is a good idea, mind .........

Is there any safe parts of this world left for us to fly over? Now we got at least two dozen countries with stray missiles, volcanic ash, cosmic rays, crashing space junk re entering, meteorites, you name it. Maybe it is safer to drive afterall... :(

Lowkoon 24th Jul 2014 12:26

275,000+ road deaths a year in China alone? (WHO stat). Depends where you want to drive. Give me a boarding pass any day! We all know we are much more likely to die in a crew bus than an airbus.

1.25 million people a year die in cars, just imagine if that many people died in aircraft each year., it is the equivalent of 17 x 200 seat aircraft crashing every day! Road deaths don't sell news papers I guess?

I am in no way attempting to detract from the senseless avoidable tragedy of MH17.

Somebody must be getting nervous

Emirates to stop flying over Iraq

From today's DailyMail

Emirates decided to re-route planes along different flight paths amid concerns about the dangers posed by Islamic militants on the ground.
Sir Tim Clark, president of the Dubai-based airline, said he believed other airlines would soon follow suit as he called for government agencies to offer more advice about flying over conflict zones.
The move comes after MH17 was shot down by a surface-to-air missile while travelling over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 on board, on July 17.
Mr Clark confirmed routes being considered included over Saudi Arabia and the Red Sea, over Cairo and into European airspace, or over Iran.

Take it's still ok for CX.

Will the day be upon us when all traffic to Europe from our part of the world will go the long way round?

Lowkoon 29th Jul 2014 01:56

Nope... Safety over greed? Name one airline that actually lives by their well worn mantra. Just different depths of the same dung heap.

TWT 29th Jul 2014 10:12

Malaysian flight MH4 ( A380 KUL> LHR) is overflying Iran at the moment, steering well clear of Iraq.
