Current FO lifestyle?
Expecting my upgrade soon. I know it is a customary vexing question time and time again. But can any FO veterans give insights about the training and FO lifestyle henceforth? Not the good ole days FO lifestyle but the current one. Expecting a baby along the way. Help appreciated thanks!

It depends...
Upgrade on the 777...3 long hauls, 15-18 days off and less than 2 landings a months (exactly what a 200hr cadet needs to finesse his/her flying skills). A330...15-25 sectors a month, 8-10 Gs with a few O days to screw with your roster, lots of India, split duties and Asian turn around and overnight flights - no 3 man crew till you get your RQ. Training...as usual in CX depends who you get but generally good...most trainers wanna get the best out of you so it's up to you to a certain extent. Don't get bogged down with tech stuff...what counts is route knowledge, NPs and OPS-A... Hope this helps... AB |
Seriously....
you have no idea what FO rosters look like after spending 3+ years as an SO? ...really? |
Why must there be always a  in the crowd here. The poster is just asking a question.
|
What about schedules on the freighter fleet (744/8F)? Similar to the 777 schedule?
|
Wow. There really are some special people on PPRuNe.
|
Thanks a lot mates for those who truly helped. That being said, working with FOs and eventually being a FO myself are totally different. Trying to get a grip of what to expect. Cheers

Long dong silva had it right.
Why isn't there more awareness by an upcoming candidate Do you homework. You shouldn't have to get it here Monster |
Slight thread drift, but anybody at Cathay know what this music is on their Skytrax award for 2009 video?

Music
"music is on their Skytrax"
According to my phone (via shazam app) it is: I will be there with you (instrumental version) David foster |
Check the rosters on intraCX.

According to my phone (via shazam app) it is: I will be there with you (instrumental version) David foster I've done a bit of research based on your info and the title is right, but the artist is Katharine McPhee. I think it was composed by David Foster. Reason I ask, is that a friend of my daughter's has a very similar voice and wants to add it to her repetoire! Thanks again jimjim1 |
FO - single - enough time and money to have a good time OR to save decently for retirement, but not enough money to do both.
FO - married, no kids - wife working certainly helps to have extra income for saving and a decent lifestyle. FO - family man - no money for saving or having a good time, just struggling along paying ridiculous school fees and surviving in your cramped apartment or tiny villa. Staff travel to get home sucks horribly, and base slots are nowhere to be seen. A330 and B747 = crap rosters, but lots of landings. :ok: B777 = good rosters, but you won't get comfortable as PF for a long time. |
The Airline's flagship money maker, B777, not seen until 1:54 seconds in, and what was that really BIG A340, you know the one they don't have anymore? The one that actually would have suited JNB perfectly all year round? :p
I digress.... They upgrading you ALREADY? |
TOP RUN
4 years in the company and you have to come ask a factual question on a rumor network about what your job is like? Cathay hires some special ones these days....:ugh: |
I have to agree. You don't even need to speak to anyone to find the answers you desire. Odd that you would come on here asking these sorts of questions. You're weird!!!

A certain Airbus SO?
I was thinking the same thing...his name keeps coming up all the time...
|
Pointless
It's really a bit of a pointless thread.
He/she doesn't get a choice on whether to upgrade. SO's who can't make the transition tend to find a don't come Monday letter. You can quibble about the lifestyle as much as you like. It's not a choice unless you're prepared to leave the airline. |
