Award for getting into HK before Typhoon
Many years ago I flew on CX into HK on the flight deck just before typhoon struck, and airport was closed. We were 3rd from last in, and crew bemoaned the fact that they would not get plate or tin cup for being last in. This was late 1980,s and many miles have been flown since, and I was just wondering if this still occurs, or were crew just pulling my leg as it was quite some landing as it was at the "old" airport. Thanks in anticipation.

This was all about the score from the Aero Club Bar. Last in got a free round. In retrospect there should not have been bragging rights but them's were the days when I was but a humble and very junior F/O:ok: |
Is that Aero Club Bar still there or finally bulldozed out of interest.

its still there and active!!! the only flying out Kai Tak now is the 10 or so private helicopters based at HKAC.On the fixed wing side, they operate out of Sek Kong Airfield, but the chinese military only allow weekend flying.

Thank you for updating me about the Aero Club Bar. I guessed there may have been a drink or two involved as it was a little "sporty" (crews words). It is quite a different attitude in the world now as you say, almost certainly safer but a little less colourful maybe. Once again thank you, and tight lines. Regards Mr Mac |
