Informative Salary and Benefit Package for First Officers A330/B777 FIRST OFFICER Salary: A First Officer candidate, beginning to work in accordance with the requirements of the agreement, will be subject to Collective Labor Agreement and annexes thereof applicable (and to be promulgated later on) in Turkish Airlines Inc. and to protocols, regulations, directives, administrative board decisions and other legislation. Some of the rights regulated in the said legislation are as follows; 1- Salary After the Employee starts the training, Monthly gross payment is TL 11,521 (5,029 exchange rate may vary) plus a bonus payment of gross TL 5,951(2,598 exchange rate may vary) is going to be given every three months ( In March, June, September and December over the sum of (1) seniority payment and (2) flight compensation). Thus per month the Employee will receive an average total gross amount of TL 13,504 ( 5,895 exchange rate may vary) . The details of the gross monthly payment of TL 11,521 that is going to be given to be Employee after he/she starts line training is as determined below: (a) TL 1,147 seniority payment if the Employee has bachelor degree ( may vary according to education level university diploma equivalency must be approved by Turkish Council of Higher Education ( YÖK)- also after the completion of each year on the first day of the following August one seniority degree is given to the Employee.) (b) TL 4,804 flight compensation, (c) TL 5,240 credited additional flight compensation, (d) TL 330 social support Other Benefits: The First Officer will be granted with a marital support of TL 950 for once in case he gets married. The First Officer will be granted with a breastfeeding benefit of TL 440 in case his wife delivers a child. The First Officer will be granted with a death benefit of TL 1.200,00 in case the wife, the children of the First Officer, whom he is liable with supporting, his father or his mother deceases Tax: To calculate Net Pay, in accordance with current Turkish legislations, approximately 95% of Gross Salary is paid to the Employee (in a year approximately 5% withheld for taxes and social security deductions). The ratios of the deductions may vary increasingly throughout the year. The amount of deductions will be determined in accordance with bilateral taxation and social security treaties. Overtime: If the First Officer flies in excess of 70 hours in a given month, he/she shall receive an additional overtime payment for such exceeding flight time calculated by adding 50% to his level of hourly rate for such overtime (which is equal to TL 110,94 per hour as of July 1st, 2010) If the First Officer flies on Turkish religious and national holidays of Turkey or on Sundays, he shall receive an additional payment for such days calculated over a special hourly rate. This job description is for informative purposes only and it does not form any contractual obligations. Travel Allowance: The First Officer will be paid a travel allowance in varying amounts determined as per the destinations to be travelled in accordance with the company circular regulating fuel support and travel allowances. As of July 1st, 2010, the travel allowance within Turkey is net TL 33 per day and for Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, it is net TL 50 per day. As to other destinations around the world, the travel allowances are being determined in varying amounts depending on the country to be travelled. The First Officer will be granted the following pass or reduced rate tickets; one (1) 100% pass ticket and two (2) 90% reduced rate tickets for domestic flights for his wife and for his children under his custody after one (1) year employment with the TURKISH AIRLINES INC . After 2nd year of employment, one (1) additional 100% pass ticket for international routes (Middle East and Europe only). After 3rd year of employment, one (1) additional 100% domestic flight ticket and after 5th year one (1) 90% reduced rate international flight ticket. After 10th year, four (4) additional 90% reduced rate international flight tickets. Additionally, the First Officer will be granted with 2 ID90R2 tickets monthly by TURKISH AIRLINES INC. that the First Officer applies the ticket sales office in person. Insurance: The First Officer benefit from the standard health plan provided by TURKISH AIRLINES INC. to all employees in accordance with the company policies. The ATPL license of the First Officer will be insured by TURKISH AIRLINES INC. against the risk of loss of license due to medical reasons and the coverage of insurance will be equal to the coverage determined for First Officers of TURKISH AIRLINES INC.(the current insurance coverage for First Officer is USD 75,000). Standard Roster pattern: Follows the monthly roster according to the company procedures. Accommodation & Transportation After the employment, for the first 45 days TURKISH AIRLINES INC. will supply hotel accommodation and transportation. Annual leave: Annual leave of the First Officer who completes his/her one year of duty is 20 work-day. 5 - 15 years is 26 work-days, and more than 15 years is 30 work-day. Other leave days: The First Officer will be granted with paid casual leave up to 7 days in case of demand. The First Officer will be granted with paid marital leave for 8 days in case he gets married. The First Officer will be granted with paid birth leave for 6 days in case his wife delivers a child. The First Officer will be granted with paid leave for 7 days in case his wife, children, mother or father or siblings decease. TURKISH AIRLINES A330-A340-B777 CAPTAINS Start Date Immediate start dates will be available (subject to assessment) Base of Operations Istanbul, Turkey (and other bases within Turkey as advised by THY) Duration of Contract THY are offering candidates successful at assessment a permanent contract Salary THY will pay pilots directly each month the following basic salary benefits: Basic Salary: *TL17, 675.36 gross per month (**approx 7, 794) *Note: Salary of TL17, 675.36 is inclusive of a seniority allowance. If you hold a Bachelor Degree qualification then this allowance shall remain included in the monthly salary. Crap. The interesting thing is that the world over, there is a definite pilot shortage developing (pilots with experience....they can always get wannabe cadets). Slowly but surely the pay and benefits will increase. Within two or three years, many contract jobs will be better than CX. Give it time. In the meantime....I don't need a 'breastfeeding allowance'...!! :hmm:

Waste of a trip to HKG with those offers. They might grab a few individuals desperate for a ticket out of the Fragrant Harbour, but the money is quite low.

The renumeration package is low, so perhaps the main target is not CX/KA but some of the Europeans flying with the other HKG carriers. Or if you're desperate and cannot get a LON base at least Turkey is closer to home and could offer a possible commute.

Ignoring how much they are paying, the interesting thing is they are sniffing around. Qatar is in KL, Emirates have been in Singapore and Sydney, and now Turkish in Hong Kong.i think the wheel is slowly turning.

The conditions offered by the turks are pathetic and I find it hard to believe that anybody at CX (even though a cr@p employer) or KA would even consider switching. Probably much more relevant for HKA pilots with an EASA license. Suppose the solid 1 week off and a rather short commute could be worse. But the money is sh@t. |

Turkish have had a lot of dealings with HKA recently, they are trying to set up a freighter wet lease. But thanks to CAD foot dragging in this wonderful "liberal free-market city" - that venture remains grounded.
But the Turkish managers who came to HKA to do an audit recognized another potential opportunity, in the numerous JAA/EASA qualified European pilots whose human needs are being baldly ignored (if not intentionally thwarted) by HKA. They began making offers to individual pilots even back then! HKA has no commuting contract, and no Bases. They claim to be a HK based airline with HK based crew, but they don't pay a penny in housing allowances, or schooling fees. That all comes out of your own basic salary, which hasn't been adjusted for inflation in 2 years. It's around 4% p.a. The package doesn't make it attractive - or indeed practical - to bring a family. Most HKA guys live bachelor lives. A while ago it was still possible to make it home now and again, because the roster was over manned, and DDOs could be grouped. Crewing were quite accommodating. But lately, pilots have begun leaving for greener pastures, and the rostering is now getting very tight. Management have even gone so far as to ban requests for more than three DDOs in a row....and even three in a row is rare anyhow. Single DDO's are very common. The result is that none of the European or South American crews can go home any more. Hong Kong is their prison. Only the Philipppino and Taiwanese pilots are managing to have anything resembling family lives. This is resulting in massive sick out numbers, and more guys drifting away every month. It's a real pity, as it is now becoming a very unhappy and pessimistic scene. I guess the Turks see the writing on the wall, even if HKA Management ignore it. They'll get at least a handful of guys at HKA. Many more are actively looking elsewhere or are already 'in the departure lounge'. Maybe HKA Management will finally wake up when they have to start canceling flights. By then it may be too late. That kind of outcome is exactly what the CAD will pounce on to further wind the show down. Jetstar is waiting in the wings. |

The euro has been staging a comeback since mid 2013. Ever since things calmed down a bit in Greece. But will it last? There are still enormous fiscal issues to be worked through in the PIGS.
In the short term, yes, the current strength of the euro has a damaging effect on those THY salaries. But if you look at the HKD/EUR rates you'll see the HKD has fallen steadily all year too, down about 6% . If your home is in Europe you are losing ground, while also facing 4.5% p.a. inflation in HK, a mega expensive city. HKA does not fly to Europe, and gives their expats nothing in terms of ticket subsidies, so any home trips you manage to get are full fare, at your own expense. They don't even allow their pilots jump-seat travel on their own network! (Except on two local freighter services, and with massive paperwork headaches associated.) THY offer free tickets home on your block Off Days! THY may not be the golden goose - but if you are tired of separation from home and family it starts to look like a decent option. With their better Days Off arrangements (3 weeks on 1 week off) and europe-wide route network, you can at least have a semblance of normality. No need to transfer the family to Istanbul. Just hop on a free flight and get home to them in an hour or two! The HKA salary is already below par for HK. Subtract the tax, the cost of housing, the cost of full fare tickets home, and the difference might boil down to a few hundred euro either way at current exchange rates. The Basic Salary is the same as HKA. The extras could put it ahead. It won't likely attract CX guys, but they aren't the target. It's HKA all the way. Can anyone clarify - what are the jump-seating arrangements at THY? Do they accept FD crew in the jump-seat on leisure travel? Do they give free jumpseat privileges to FD crew traveling in uniform? Jetstar is waiting in the wings. Do you honestly believe their package/rostering etc will be any better??? |
If you get kidnapped on an overnight, in say, oh I don't know, Lebanon, does the breast feeding allowance still apply during periods of torture and incarceration? Also, would I actually have to lactate to qualify, or would one 'selfie' of my man boobs get me the Loot?

Hi guys,
I will be going to Turkish Airlines Roadshow in HKG... Anyone has any idea of what to expect? Will they conduct individual interviews?tech exam? Anyone knows how long will it take for an expat A330 FO to get upgraded? if they even upgrade... and not having a university diploma will cause a problem? Will they consider fast track command for experienced FOs 6000+ total with 4000Hrs on type? What are the A330/A340 routes/Layovers like in Turkish? any expansion on this fleet? Thanks |
