Taxi Fare + 9 % !!!

Government approves Hong Kong taxi fare increases from December | South China Morning Post

Even the taxi drivers get a raise...

etrang 13th Dec 2013 05:13

The drivers won't get to see much of it. The licence owners, on the other hand, will be smiling.

crwkunt roll 14th Dec 2013 12:02

It's obvious the driver won't get it, but in the big scheme, it adds to our cost of living, which is continually being ignored.

CX Salary v's HK Taxi Driver

Maybe you folk would like to swap pay packets with the HK taxi drivers???

SloppyJoe 18th Dec 2013 09:09

Maybe you would like to swap lives with someone in North Korea???

Synchronize 19th Dec 2013 08:53

That's not the point

The point of the original argument was, that yet again another service has increased it's cost and our salaries are remaining at 10 year lows
It wasn't about, its better here than N Korea , or that we have a better income than the average taxi driver in HK
The company isn't slow about putting ticket prices up , or increasing the fuel surcharge but they are ever so reluctant to address our ever shrinking salaries

Captain Dart 19th Dec 2013 19:54

That's because there is a never ending supply of desperate ones lining up to replace us on ever-shrinking terms and conditions; it's been happening since the mid-nineties.

From my kids school.

The 2014 tuition fee schedule is attached to this letter and taking into account the 2014 transition plan, tuition fees reflect an average increase of 5%.

and from last year

The 2013 tuition fee schedule is attached and reflects an average tuition fee increase of 5.8%

I didn't train hard enough to become a taxi driver, so I shouldn't expect the same remuneration. As for the Nth Koreans I guess I was just lucky on that account.
Shark finning is a terrible thing but none of these things have anything to do with the increases in cost of living which we are not being compensated for.

Taxi fare

I feel sorry for you guys. I live 19kms from Sydney Airport where a 27 min. ride to International Terminal, costs about 54AUD=373HKD. During my recent visit to HKG, a 50 min. drive from Happy Valley to Chek Lap Kok cost me 300HKD. I wish I was still living in Hong Kong!

Sam Ting Wong 23rd Dec 2013 01:04

HotDog,

the point is an escalating inflation in HK, without any compensation for us,not the absolute difference.

If you think HK is cheap, I suggest on your next visit you buy yourself a nice steak with a bottle of red. Then compare again.

HotDog 23rd Dec 2013 02:25

Yes Sam, a good steak and a bottle of red is comparable to Sydney prices, unless you can bring your own Aussie red which you can buy cheaper than in Oz, However, the discussion is about taxi fares.

Sam Ting Wong 23rd Dec 2013 03:08

No, it is not, it is about cost of living.
I think I should know that, since I started this thread.

I know Sydney is not cheap either, but then you probably do live in a nice big house somewhere along the coast, breathe clean air, your wife might have an income, you see your friends and family as often you like, go for a morning surf now and then, etc etc, AND spend a lot less in many areas, e.g. good quality food, schools, etc.

Comparing a taxi ride in absolute numbers is not fair in my opinion , that is why I pointed out the relative change. ( a taxi ride which you probably don't need to take anyway most of the times, since you own a car, something considered a luxury item here).

Keeping my comments to myself

Jizzmonkey, you may suggest anything you like however that does not mean that I have to refrain from commenting. I am enjoying my retirement thank you very much. Keep an eye out young fellow, you just might have reason to give me some unwanted advice again.
