Leave Points

Why is Christmas -6 points, and Chinese New Year -4 ?

An even better question is why are there weeks that are worth -6, but no weeks worth +6. It only seems equitable that there be weeks worth equal amounts positive and negative.

Was that question made tongue-in-cheek, or were you serious? :p

Let's just say this is my 10th year as an airline pilot, this not being the first airline I've worked for. Now you decide if it was "tongue in cheek!"

The total number of positive weeks outweighs the total of negative weeks, for a total of 112 positive points available vs 102 negative points available.

The better question is, having changed the system to cover April-March in order to have "greater visibility" of the required task ahead and hence the slots available, why are so few slots released especially in the latter part of the leave year? This year in February for example only one (1!) slot was available per week in my category!

Another good question is, why are so few slots available over Xmas but then you find dozens of people have been awarded ULV during the same period?

Yet another good question would be, why do they bother having a leave allocation preference list and a pool request system, if the latest trick is to simply allocate outstanding leave (the instant a pool period closes) in a period too soon in the future to be covered by the next leave pool? In other words, you are now being allocated leave with no choice in the matter as it is made impossible to "throw back into the pool"...

I could start raving about C&T getting first pick of leave instead of being compensated properly and leaving line CNs with the leftovers, but enough good questions for now. :ugh:

In CX more pilots want to go on leave during Christmas than Chinese new year, therefore it 'costs' more to obtain Christmas leave.

Rugby, if you can't afford X'mas leave then just tell your kids Santa delayed his flight till Chinese New Years due Chinese airspace closed by military and he had to take the long way around to get here. After all, they all wear red anyway....
