British pilot stabbed and beaten in Lantau car park
A British pilot who was stabbed and bashed in the head by three masked men as he returned to his Lantau home on Friday is in serious condition in hospital. Dominic Warren, 47, was attacked at about 1.45am after parking his car on South Lantau Road, 100 metres from his three-storey house in Tong Fuk village. Warren is the director of operations at TAG Aviation Asia and was returning home after running a training session for new pilots at the Chek Lap Kok airport. It seems that he was hit with a rock in the head and stabbed CARLOS GOMEZ, COLLEAGUE Police said he was ambushed by three masked men soon after he got out of his car in the car park. One of them had a box cutter, and another a hard object believed to be a rock. The men were thought to be Chinese. “It seems that he was hit with a rock in the head and stabbed,” said Carlos Gomez, the chief executive of TAG Aviation Asia, which operates and manages private jets. A police officer said Warren managed to get away from his attackers, who fled, and made it inside his home, where his domestic helper found him and called the police. His two teenage sons were also home at the time. Warren was taken to the Mui Wo Clinic with head, arm and chest injuries, then transferred to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung. He had surgery, but his condition was not life-threatening, Gomez said. He did not know of any motive for the attack. Officers searched the area but did not find the men. A bloodstained box cutter and two face masks were found at the scene. Warren was not known to have been in dispute with anyone and did not know his attackers, another officer said. “We believe the attack was just a warning rather than an attempt to kill him,” the officer said, adding that the motive for the attack was unknown. Warren, a divorcé, moved to the city from Britain two years ago with his two sons when he was hired by the aviation firm. The family is understood to have moved into the Tong Fuk house from Discovery Bay about two months ago. Whoa! I'm really surprised at this action. I was a HK resident for many years and my wife and I have always commented on how safe we felt on the streets, even at night. The crime in Hong Kong and the New Territories is just about 100% about money and seldom about any other issues.
I do hope Mr Warren is OK and recovers from this dreadful experience as quickly as possible. |
Triad city; bunch of qweiloh got beaten up about 5 years over a parking dispute so I am far from surprised....God speed and safe home buddy....

I've heard "District 9" can be a bit too indigenous. You walk around some of the villages and it is pretty backwards. I can't imagine it mixes too well with some of the people living there in what would be considered "mansions" compared to how the natives live. I guess something that will become more common as income inequality becomes greater in HKG.
Pretty shocking though, I must say you get lulled into a very secure comfort in HKG due to how safe it is relative to most western countries most of us come from. Something like this would not even make the local news back home. |

Got to disagree with you there. South Lantau has had a large contingent of westerners in the villages ever since the airport started to be constructed back in the 90s. As for the mansion comment, you can't get bigger than a village house so only difference is the decor. I think there is more to this story. Upset some people me thinks. The guy hasn't been in hk for very long so it's easy to upset the locals if you don't start playing the game/politics very quickly. Hope he recovers real soon. One thing that annoys me though, takes three of them with a knife....spineless... |

To all expat pilots living in DB and District 9 : do write to your consular officer so that they can put pressure on the Hong Kong Government to step up police patrols and intelligence gathering so as to prevent this sort of activity.
It can happen again anytime. Think of your families and loved ones. You must not tolerate this any more. Rise up and make yourself heard ! |

I'm no FOX Crime detective, but how about... 1) British guy living large in a rural area in HKG. 2) Divorcee that just moved his 2 sons thousands of miles away from their mother. 3) "...running a training session..." Yeah, I'm sure everybody passes with flying colors. 4) He was a DO (DFO?). Who hasn't thought at one point in their lives that a rock would make a nice hat for a DFO? :ooh: There's always a motive! |

S. Lantau
South Lantau has definitely become a bit wild west over the past few years. Some colleagues have had their homes burgled numerous times, including finding mainland thieves inside. Some have resorted to keeping the alarm on for window and doors while they're home during the daytime. Rural, yes. Safe, not as much as one would think.

You can't fight triads on your own. Just pay protection/parking money and make life easy for yourself.

Maybe he should have talked with the village chief before the argument in the morning of the attack. Maybe he brought this on himself.....
More to this story than a simply mugging and stabbing..... Their are cultural differences between everyone who lives in a village... don't step on other people toes..... (hint hint) R E S P E C T |

Life in Tong Fuk is easy if you keep on the right side of the Village chief's clan, which is not really difficult. You don't get trouble if you get on with them, they collectively own a big chunk of the village and they look after their own. Realise there is an order to things, and that being the ugly arrogant Gweilo doesn't endear. Situation Awareness and respect go a long way.
One of the brothers was my landlord for a while, and we got on well. |
