US Carriers Hiring
 

To all of the Americans in Cathay who consistently whine and carry on about how bad Cathay is on PPRuNe and the AoA forums this post is directed at you.

All of this posting about COS, hiring targets and other benefits of US carriers while complaining about CX is making me nauseous.

Please will you just resign and go home to work at one of these airlines that you are so desperate to tell us all about.

Otherwise, STFU.

I can see your point, to a degree; but it never hurts to try and improve your own position, especially if there are some good examples to follow.

Imagine if we could combine the best practices from round the world into our RPs.

I guess it just comes down to a choice between mindless whinging and constructive criticism.

I agree, but it seems these folk are never on the GC and comments made only ever pertain to the inadequacy of our contract/s versus those of US airlines. It may be useful to a point, but at this point it seems the best thing for these guys (and the rest of us) is to leave. The whining will cease, which will make me happy. They will have a better job (in their eyes) which makes them happy - and finally, it may send a message to the company, which helps all of us.

Yes, good point about their insufficient numbers on the GC.

Hydrolix, I sent you a PM. I wanted to apologize if I have offended. I like Cathay Pacific very much, and want to make us a career airline. I find it useful to post examples from our US collegues to give us all something to compare with. I shall try to find a better balance of giving information without being perceived as complaining (though I have to say, I think it the AOA forum is an appropriate place to express displeasure, I shall endevour to minimise it to avoid further offence)

I've got nothing against Americans at all, just those that use the AoA forums to complain about how bad it is in HK compared with how great they'd have it in the US. As I said, complaining will get you nowhere. If its so bad here and so good there just leave! Simple, simple, simple...

Yes, rather than encourage the small number of folks at CX who actually have an idea how a "regular" airline contract exists to stay and perhaps attempt to improve our lot (or at least enlighten those who are unfamiliar), lets press them to leave. That way, all that remain will be the clueless cadets, beaten down yes-men, non-members, and G day workers. Which one of those are you, Hydrolix?

Boxjockey. Personally I'd rather have to put up with a bit of whining, (it's a Pilot chat page, what did you expect?) than converse electronically with anyone who uses the phrase

Looking through your sole post above, what exactly did you share apart from your "Whiny Aussies" comment, justification attempted by claiming that all other nations would agree. Have you asked everyone?

Uhhh... yeah. Let's see... Movies, TV shows, most music, video games, and media all pretty much qualify as "culture" in my mind. You may not like US culture (I certainly wish things were different sometimes), but that doesn't mean it is absent. Most of the world emulates US culture ad nauseam.

When you write things like that, you just further the image of CX as a place that is anti-American. Not that it really matters, most Americans don't care and chalk such comments up to pettiness. I have been treated with respect by almost everyone at CX except for the Management, who disrespects all of us daily.

PS - "Mate" sounds just as silly to me as "brah."

So this is fun, much better than all the usual stuff about MDAs, Viz Appr, G days, yada yada.

To my American friends: please re-read my comment about the US and Culture. It was an outrageous and provocative remark which I don't believe at all, to illustrate the crassness of Boxjockey getting stroppy with the Aussies but trying to retain the high moral ground by including the word "Sincerely". I though the tongue-in-cheekness of this would be obvious but retracted it in writing anyway. Perhaps my hope that an understanding of cultural relativism would allow the usual inappropriate, sarcastic, sledge hammer Brit Wit to be understood and accepted, "..those Goddam Limeys!..) was a bit optimistic? Still feeling offence? My command of English is letting me down then, but there is none intended.

As regards US Pop Culture... Anyone know when the next "Archer" hits the streets?

The airlines aren't the only ones looking for crews. Frankly, I think, the airlines are not that great anymore. Lots of both local and overseas companies with decent pay and benefits. Supply and demand dictates terms and conditions and things are improving in this sector as well.:D

Yes, being CX I am fully aware of the tea reference. That was the point that I was making; Americans don't get the joke since they don't have the same affinity for tea as do the British.
