Do I smell a backflip??

So, we can now use our brains and adjust the CI as needed under the circumstances.....

Finally some common sense, thanks MH.

What's the big deal? Don't you just select whatever M/speed you want anyway, depending on the circumstances?

nitpicker330 16th Aug 2013 11:03

Not admitting to that on a public forum :E

When are they going to realize that to save fuel they should give the CN more control and stop with the micromanagement. Not once have I ever heard a CN say "I would like more but that is what is planned so we will go with that". On many, in fact too many to count occasions I have heard "that alternate/rec extra seems a bit over the top but I am happy with it if that's what they want".

If they want to save fuel give the CN free reign with it, absolute choice in alternate and rec extra. The savings would be huge.

At long last somebody with some brains is in charge AKA our new GMO. We, as crews, are being asked to minimise the very expensive fuel we carry. An open acknowledgement of our input to this circus has been made ( at long last). Management will now micromanage our fuel decisions so get your acts together.
Our willingness to take part in this new initiative can make or break millions of dollars apparently. So we do have some value. We can make a difference. We should be appreciated for the money ( for that is everything) we can save these people. Here's to their collective bonus.
So good to be part of a winning team......

Are you saying our ex-GMO didn't have them?

Oh I thought the CI was based on the next DB bus departure :oh:

Glad I ignored all that nonsense.

Now if we could only dispense with the archaic 300 knot descents. They worked well for the Convair 880 and 707, when there was very little traffic around. Times have changed!

744drv 18th Aug 2013 15:56

.... and the whole 300 kt thing is self perpetuating. "You cannot descend slower because every other ac around you is doing 300 kts". What tripe. FCOM is self contradictory .... "SHALL fly 300 kts" .... "However,..."

If ATC doesn't like your speed, they'll assign another....simple.
