Safegate docking system taxi in speed

It says in the Jeppesen pages about the system that "pilots should maintain a speed of 6 knots whilst using the docking guidance system and slow down to a halt when the STOP message is displayed".

6 knots seems a bit fast to me for the final stages of a taxi-in followed by coming to a "halt" when the stop message is displayed. Is this how most out there taxi in or is there a problem with gradually slowing down closer to the stopping position?

Oh dear, I'm bored so I'll bite...

Yes you must always obey the rules as copied in written documentation!
To explain this case more fully:
1. Taxi at Exactly 6 knots.
2. Not 5, not 7knots.
3. You must not modulate speed for any reason.
4. When STOP message displayed: Apply full braking.
5. Halt! Immediately!:ugh:

If you have any further questions regarding this or any other Manual interpretations, please refer to my next Forthcoming Book entitled "How to order coffee inflight, in only 630,996 easy steps." An invaluable guidance manual which can be incorporated in my Aviation Compendium "How to be a Pilot Without Really Thinking" series. Free binder and pocket protector for the first 200 orders!:ok:

To answer your question the docking system will work with any reasonable taxi speed and any reasonable technique of slowing down for the last little bit.

If you do normal pilot stuff it works great. Taxi at safe and reasonable speeds.

Be careful reading too much and worrying about minutia--you might confuse yourself and lose your common sense.

If you do try taxiing in at 6 knots it'll tell you to slow down pretty much as soon as you turn on and certainly well before you get close to the stop point. Try it on your next line check!

I would like to know which GS readout to use. There is often a split between left and right seat displays.

Not sure where it was written. Perhaps in the general section, but it said six knots until 10m then 3 knots until stop.

Apparently HKIA have set up speed radars alongside the docking guidance system and offenders to the 6kt limit (1kt either way) will be prosecuted.

See how long you can maintain the "slow down" and still stop without "too far" now that's skill! :E

Excellent way to injure the idiots who STAND UP BEFORE THE SEAT BELT SIGNS ARE SWITCHED OFF!:ok:
