Any new CX WIFES out there?

As you can imagine getting a start date so early came as a shock to us. We have over the last few days had mixed feeling about whether to take the position or not. I am sure many of you wifes have been the shoulder to cry on like I have.

However after talking to many current cx pilots and there wifes/partners before calling cx back with our answer we found that all of them said to us "if they were in our position they would say yes"

We then went out to celebrate on Saturday night with some of these people and everyone was excited for us. How many other cx union members are saying "take the job" to there friends?

As a wife I am very supportive of his goals and dreams and I am looking forward to the new culture, language and meeting new friends.

Freehills 29th Apr 2002 12:46

Wind up?

Freehills 29th Apr 2002 13:06

An "old wives' tale" even!

Rod Von Eddington 29th Apr 2002 13:26

Nice try, but a bit to obvious.........

Alpha Leader 29th Apr 2002 13:28

Yep, would look a lot more convincing if she could spell "wives"
:D

cxkate 29th Apr 2002 23:32

.......What is it I have a problem with,

That my husbands start date is in a few weeks or that our friends whom are cx s/o one of which is currently taking an upgrade, have made us feel alot more comfortable taking the position because they have said that in our position they would also say yes.

I suggest, that you have a forum to see if this is what your members really want as it seems, our friends disagree with the ban or they value our friendship.

We are good people who have been a member of an airline union for many years. We give support where it is due. This issue that you guys are trying to resolve I have the up most simpathy for as I to, am an Airline emplyee who is involved in the union, we will be giveing our support to you all because by improving your conditions you improves our also. You have contracts that are about to expire, negotiate them right and life will be alot more pleasent for everyone. Support in numbers is a good way to start.

Now!!! if there is anyone reading this who has a start date soon I would love to hear from your wife or partner.

cxkate 30th Apr 2002 01:26

This is where you are wrong, I work with the union number 1 and I know that we are still allowed to belong to the union here in our country. We still get the support from a different angle. A union must comply with the 2 sides of views and work for their members, whether it be member v member or member v employer.

Having said that you have missed the point.

You seem so involved in tangling yourself in others lives, should'nt it be your employer that you are angry at. Good luck to you personally Frankg as I am wondering if this is giving you as much sleepless nights as it was giving us. Feel free to talk to someone who can calm you down and maybe you should send your cv off to some other airline that you would enjoy working for. As without CRM you will be the one who will lose out in the end. Don't give up on your issue to the company as it is a valid one. We give you our full support, union members stick together, you should be targeting your employer not us.

6feetunder 30th Apr 2002 02:21

I think you have missed the point Missy (not sure if that is what you are).

If your husband is indeed a member of an IFALPA organisation, his membership will be revoked and he will not be allowed to join another one again, or at least for a while according to ironbutt.

So go ahead, join CX. Have a ball in Hong Kong!

I think you will notice that nobody has answered your request for information yet. Does that tell you anything?

Wizofoz 30th Apr 2002 03:44

cxkate,

The fact that your husband puts you and your families future ahead of a sensless union ban makes him an honourable and admirable man in my book. Just be aware that as with the '89 pilots dispute, there are those that simply will not acknowledge that theirs is not the only point of view in the world, and maintain that anyone acting contrary to their wishes is some lower form of life. Often their posinous vitriol is spread to their families, and wives and children become front line soldiers in their battles.

In the end, your job is not your life. Go to Honkers, enjoy the lifestyle, and when husband comes home upset because he's had a run-in with some hot head, give him a warm hug, a cold beer, and go about the rest of your life in pride and dignity.

The best of luck to you both.

VR-HFX 30th Apr 2002 03:53

Can't be too picky with spelling and grammar when Nigel's last missive to our esteemed leader had Hong Kong spelt wrongly.... but then I thought that perhaps our scribe is actually looking for the Ex Wives' Club and not the CX Wifes Club.

Try Freehills....

Definitely a windup.

41IA 30th Apr 2002 03:56

cxkate, can you imagine having to deal with ostracism for the REST OF YOUR HUBBY'S CAREER?

Be patient. This will be resolved and you and your family will be welcomed to Hong Kong in due course. I am sure you are fine people with a good sense of right and wrong...but this is wrong. Listen to what 99% are saying...DON'T DO IT.

HUSTLER 30th Apr 2002 04:02

411A, Is that really you????

HUSTLER 30th Apr 2002 04:04

Oh I get it!!, bit slow this morning

Wizofoz 30th Apr 2002 06:06

"Welcomed to Hong Kong in due course" by which company? The HKAOA members persist in implying that those that turn down Cathay in support of the ban will somehow be offered jobs latter, but not one will commit to any action to assist these people.

You expect people to lay their careers on the line for you, but I have not seen the faintest intimation that you might be willing to do the same for others.

cxkate 30th Apr 2002 06:30

wizofoz thank you for your words of encouragement.

We have just recieved our contract and this is no different to the copy that we have borrowed from one of our friends who started 18 mths ago. We have also spoken to cx tonight about maybe prolonging the date of start and they have advised us that we will have to turn down the offer. As they are not in support of the ban. Where is this second chance that you talk about.
So far we know of at least 5 course's underway from now with at least 8 each on them, poeple are not going to sacifice there future for another, when AOA members are not going to do the same.

Ps: Frang,freehills,6feetunderand 41Ia
You seem to be the ones that are for this mess why don't you become proactive and help clean it up by fighting the company not alpa members.
Get a forum going and find out really what your members want. You guys would be good at the front line, trying to get in there and resolve this mess as you seem to have all the knowledge.

You all seem like good guys but I can tell you have had enough.

Stay united but do it the right way.

41IA 30th Apr 2002 13:35

Pay attention now...Join CX now and you will NEVER call yourself a union member again ANYWHERE

cxkate 1st May 2002 05:17

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR COMENTS,
we have had yet another sleepless night. We have listened to you all, and have still decided to sign the contract. After advise from our friends we have also decided that this ppure has so much hear say its not funny. Good luck on your quest guys I think we will now keep up with this issue though our union and not get ourselves down by listening to your personal issues.

Thank you again and good luck!!!!!!!!

Fotze 1st May 2002 05:56

Dear CXkate

As you have clearly decided to ignore the advise of people who know the true situation here in Hong Kong I have decided to attach my previous post onto this post in the hope that you might read it and actually listen to what we are trying to say.
If you don't understand what has happened here then when you join you will be in for a rude awakening!!!!!

IT'S NOT YOUR PROBLEM?

I do not often feel compelled to write on this forum but after reading some of recent posts regarding recruitment with Cathay I really feel the need to interject.

Some of the advise and opinions being offered about the “recruitment Ban” are coming from people who have no idea about the realities of joining Cathay at this delicate time.

I can fully understand that when you are on the outside looking in it is very difficult to really understand what is going on in our company.

You really want the job and hate the fact that a few guys in the union are causing trouble!!!

You don’t have to be in the union anyway, your happy with the package being offered!!!!

“It’s not YOUR problem” right?

WRONG, VERY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

How many days after you start do you think that everything that happens in this place is going to start affecting YOUR life and you start to live and breath the awful situation WE have all been living for the last couple of years. VERY VERY soon it will also become YOUR problem.

Come on and join Cathay and see what it feels like when every time you scan your ID card over the entrance door of Cathay City you wonder if it is going to let you in, or every time you have a company letter headed envelope in your mailbox you wonder if its another demotion or sacking for no apparent reason.

These are just some of the realities for the guys and girls already in the company. Now you’re thinking of joining Cathay to replace the 49 people that got sacked. Sacked incidentally en mass by the management in order scare the **** out of the rest of us and make us all roll over and allow them to cut our conditions of service as and when it suites them.

So what are the realities for you?

Never being able to join a union again as long as you live (Big Deal!!!)

How about every time you turn up to dispatch you know that people are looking at you with disgust. Sure they will be professional, but how many of them are going to have a drink with you down route? It won’t take long before you start to feel very isolated indeed.
I am not a militant person, however I won’t be socialising with you and I can promise you, not many of us will.

Have you ever stopped to think WHY this ban is in place?

It is there to send a message to management that they cannot go on treating their employees the way they are. Why do you think the united nations are now investigating the human rights violations?

By joining now you are undermining everything we are trying to achieve and turning Cathay into a Contract Airline instead of a Career Airline.

What makes you think that if you join the company you are going to be immune from all of this?

Hong Kong is a hard place to live at the best of times and takes a great deal of getting used to without any of this other **** going on. I urge you to think very seriously before you decide to come here, instead of that “dream Job, it might just turn out to be your worst nightmare”.

Just as a final note, I couldnt really give a **** about the negative comments that come back regarding this post. I am just telling it like it is, if you chose not to believe me then fair enough. You make your own bed.

View Point 1st May 2002 06:53

Dear CXkate

I had been in the airline and lived in HKG for more than 10 years. Can tell you that its no fun working for this airline because of the constant stress that you and your family have to endure. Most of the guys here live in constant fear of losing their jobs or some kind of displinary action that the company might take against them wihout even knowing the reason. Then you will have even more sleepless nights to put up with. Living in HKG can be hell for some expats if you dont understand the language and culture. More so if you join the company now under such hostile environment. Especially when your husband is on duty, you do need friends. Even now I live in fear and many of my friends feel the same and a sense of helplessness.
Do come and join us when things are much brighter and promising.
