BA/CX code share Australia.

I think it starts to coincide with the end of the BA/QF code share.

Might need a 777 or 747 on a few Aussie flights plus could make staff travel even more difficult.

British Airways and Cathay Pacific have announced a code share agreement on flights in and out of Australia starting March 31.

The deal is subject to approval by Australian regulators and will allow BA customers to join Cathay Pacific services between Hong Kong and London.“Our new codeshare with Cathay Pacific will allow British Airways to serve all major Australian cities and provide customers with increased schedule options and flexibility,” British Airways regional commercial manager Nicole Backo said.Customers travelling through Hong Kong will land at London Heathrow Terminal 5 with access to British Airways’ European network.

Codeshare routes went on sale yesterday for departures from March 31 onward.

Wait...are we switching to Terminal 5?

SMOC 26th Feb 2013 05:30

Think it's only for the HKG-AUS vv flights.

Freehills 26th Feb 2013 05:47

Think it's only for the HKG-AUS vv flights.
Was that in reply to my question?

The first poster's quote seems to imply that BA passengers will join CX services between HKG and LHR, and will connect to T5 there.

SMOC 26th Feb 2013 09:20

T5 would be nice, does QF use it? Seems odd that CX is at T3 with Virgin, must make connecting flights with BA/1W a pain.

The 1st article has it wrong. BA do not fly to every major city in AUS, CX do. BA pax into and out of T5 in LHR and will connect onto CX in HKG to fly to AUS.

Our new codeshare with Cathay Pacific will allow British Airways to serve all major Australian cities

BA will serve all major Australian cities, in that a BA flight number will appear on Cathay Pacific services between Hong Kong and those cities.

Hence BA wil be able to sell a BA ticket with a BA flight number to all major Australian cities.

BA just won't land there with its own metal.

That's what codeshares are all about.

Hence the A380 announcement coming at next results announcement.

Slot limited into Australia, bigger jets required. :ok:

777's for Aussie is the rumour I've heard. Either way be careful what you wish for; with the new FTLS and the extra speed say hello to two Pilot ops throughout Oz.

with the new FTLS and the extra speed say hello to two Pilot ops throughout Oz.
Well, now that nothing MORE fatiguing will be allowed in the new FTL's, hopefully the guys can actually stand up for themselves and say NO.

nitpicker330 28th Feb 2013 09:31

777's to Oz.........really?

Firstly we don't have enough 777's to do Oz
Secondly we do have enough A330's here or coming to do Oz.
Thirdly we will simply make MEL 3 x daily direct, ADL daily direct
SYD 4 x daily etc etc as we have done in the past years to ramp up a bit.

We don't need or want the 777 in Oz.

geh065 1st Mar 2013 07:34

And how about people who want or "need" first class?

cxorcist 1st Mar 2013 07:52

I realize the -400 isn't exactly the most efficient machine these days, but it would be perfect for adding seats to Oz. 4 classes of service, plenty of range, decent cargo capacity, and lots of them sitting around or flying regional routes. No shortage of pilots for them either. If they just need capacity, not more frequency, then my bet is on the -400. Previous post about not enough 777s is correct. As they get them, they go straight onto long haul routes replacing the -400 to NAM and EU.

The -400 is a good short term solution, at least until all those A380s start showing up. :ok:

CXORCIST

Agree with you. Perfect route for the Gooney Bird to see out her days before the 800 arrives.Heaps of guys on the bus would be happy to go back.

nitpicker330 1st Mar 2013 11:03

That's rubbish too.

Cx ain't sending the 400 to Oz either, burns way too much of that expensive Jet A1 and they'd have to upgrade the J class and install Premium Y. Nope.
I'm sorry but the A330 is it.

Oh and very few people want or need F class to Oz, that's why we dropped it 5 years ago. Most pax in F were J class upgrades anyway!!

treboryelk 1st Mar 2013 12:24

"Heaps of guys on the bus would be happy to go back".....therein could be the next big mess to deal with.

SMOC 1st Mar 2013 12:47

They certainly wouldn't base guys on the 400 in aus it'll be short term until the A350s arrive, plus it'll offer first class to compete with the QF/EK tie up and selected 400s already have PY and the old J class redone to the new j colours the seats look brand new. Fair enough they aren't the new J but it's got first class.
