Food theft in LAX thread

Where did it go and why did it get pulled?

Baywatcher 10th Oct 2012 16:31

Because it was so pathetic!

spannersatcx 10th Oct 2012 17:12

if the originator decides to delete it then it's gone no matter how many posts were in it.

I have a fair idea why the thread was pulled. I know the SO involved and the actual FACTS of the case which were sadly devoid in crwjerks posting - I don't blame him since his posting is based on a very misleading e-mail from LAX which has been doing the rounds. I pm'ed crwjerk to enquire the source of his "facts" and he has subsequently blocked me. To his credit, at least he pulled the thread

What actually happened: The crew of CX880 were pulled over for a baggage search. 3 of the cabin crew were found to have 36 Haagen Daz ice creams in their bags. The SO involved happened to have an 80 g bag of biltong (beef jerky) in his bag from a previous Joburg trip. When the customs official asked him if he had any meat or dairy products in his baggage he made the mistake of declaring the biltong. He had NOTHING to do with the ice cream theft.

The LAX station manager then sent an e-mail to HK mentioning the incident - however, the way that the e mail is worded creates the impression that the SO was implicated in the ice cream theft. He is the only one mentioned by name, whereas none of the cc are named.

Lets get real - its hard enough getting a single ice cream from the cc - what are the chances they would give the SO a whole bunch of ice creams - duh - not in the real world.

Needless to say he is seriously p*ssed off about being wrongly implicated.

Why his ethnicity had to be brought into it I have no idea - crwjerk you live up to your name. Why do we insist on crucifying our own - one of the reasons I don't waste my time on PPRUNE anymore.

So, has the said individual sued the station manager for libel?

I'm serious. Sadly, taking these rampant pilot haters to task is the only solution remaining.

crwjerk 11th Oct 2012 01:17

Yes I pulled it because my info was obviously incorrect, even though I am reading it directly from the company notice. I guess it wasn't a rumour so no place here! Put this one to bed.
BBC........ true, it's very rare to be inspected for anything in the US, unless somebody knew to report beforehand. The crew often share ice creams on the bus. Harmless.

Air Profit 11th Oct 2012 05:17

Credit for pulling it crwjerk, it was the right thing to do. The SO was falsely maligned. We should not be seen to be attacking our own. The company makes a full time job of that....we don't need to add fuel to the fire.

N1 Vibes 11th Oct 2012 07:29

And of course it's now obvious why the company worded their Notice the way they did. To actually give the wrong impression.....

.....do you think there will be a retraction - I think not.

Happy Flying to all!

AOA needs to publish a notice correcting the company's and back the
SO up. Not to mention show CX that their games are
not going unnoticed

Back in the good old days with Virgin, mindful of the port health regs, the ladies in the J Class galley would cook off any remaining fillet steaks just prior to landing (yes in those days J Class steaks were cooked to order - it always amazed me what they could magic out of those old ovens).

They would then have a tray of steak baguettes waiting for the engineers meeting the aircraft on the early morning arrivals, complete with HP sauce.
I couldn't imagine that happening at CX.

Not sure what the culture at Virgin is like now, but in the early days the sense of connection between all the staff made it a great place to be.

The company line was straightforward, if you were going to 'decater' you NEVER took anything off the aircraft.
