Air China orders the 747-8i

Air China just firmed up orders for 5 747-8i's.

I guess CX is one of the last Asian carriers that hasn't ordered a VLJ for their long haul passenger fleet.

Anyone else feel like we're falling behind? One just has to fly on one of our regional configuration 330's or 777's to see just how far behind we are.

Air China orders five Boeing 747s Michelle Dunlop, Herald Writer 09/13/2012 5:39 PM
The 747's order drought is over.

The Boeing Co. added a request from Air China for five 747-8s to its order tally Thursday.

The Chicago-based jet maker hadn't won an order for the revitalized jumbo jet since last summer.

Air China committed to the 747-8 at last summer's Paris Air Show. But the airline didn't finalize the deal until this month.

Boeing's 747-8 isn't the only jumbo hurting for orders. This Bloomberg News story from the Berlin Air Show looks at the lack of sales for Airbus' A380 as well as Boeing's 747.

Boeing's 747 hasn't enjoyed a double-digit orders year since 2007. Company officials have said they have several order campaigns for the 747-8 and believed Boeing would win more orders when the 747-8 passenger plane, or Intercontinental, entered service.

Last Friday, the Seattle Times had this story about the original 747 jet, which is languishing in Seattle. In 2006, Joe Sutter, the man known as the "father" of the 747, talked about that aircraft in this story.

Prediction.....
You will never see another 4 engined aircraft being ordered for passenger carrying in CX.

At least until we get 2 ETOPS diversions to Shemya within a week....

Sure, it probably won't happen, but if it does, you heard it here first!

How are we falling behind just because we don't buy a certain aircraft type?
There is a reason only 3-4 airlines have ordered the 748i in the few years that the aircraft has been on sale.

True geh065.

Flaps10 got it right.

Thats the interior not the plane. You can buy a 748i and fit it with a crappy old interior or an old mothballed 707 and fit it with the newest all singing-all-dancing cabin. Aircraft types have little to do with interiors.

Exactly my point geh065.

Did you know that only 30+ 747-800 were ordered in total (both freight and pax versions) the last order for the 747-8 was in July 2011!

If it was as good as some of you say, it would have sold like the 787 or 350!

16down2togo 14th Sep 2012 12:34

Frogman,
you should urgently call Mr. Boeing to stop production,
because the 41st of your 30 ordered planes has been delivered
today!

One just has to fly on our new/ re fitted 777 and 330s to see how pretty f*cking good they are.

Flap10 - another stupid post as usual

Yes you right, it was the pax one!...yes you right, they are flying off the shelf.
